Background info:

So Monday night I spent the night at the gf's house and parked my bike on the street. There was a car on my right and no other cars to the left (red curb). I left a lot of room for the car on my right just in case he wanted to get out. I went inside approx at 10pm and went to bed around midnight. I had to leave early the next day because I had work in the morning and I wanted to go home and take a shower first before I went to work. So at around 5am in the morning, I get on my bike (still parked the same way... or so I thought), went home, and parked her in the garage. Mind you, it was early in the morning so it was still dark, so I didn't really notice anything unusual about the bike except for the fact that it was in first gear and would not go into neutral until I started the bike. I thought nothing of it and took my car to work that day.

Fast forward to today...

I had to go to traffic court today and figured I'd take my bike to work since it was a pretty nice day. I get on my bike as usual and start backing out of my garage. (I have a 1-car garage and only I have access to it) As I'm backing out, I notice that my right side mirror is folded in. Weird I say... so I folded it back out and that's when I noticed some nasty scratches on my mirror assembly. I'm like WTFFFF, I didn't hit anything and I sure as hell never dropped it. When I got to work, I took a closer look at my bike and this really pissed me off:

Right side mirror assembly:

Now I'm upset and this sh*t has successfully pissed me the f*ck off!!!

I figured it happened when I parked on the street that night. Somebody either hit my bike, or tipped it over, and figured they'd put it back upright and hopefully I wouldn't notice? WTF!!!!

And of course, no note or anything.

I went to the local Yamaha dealer today and got pricing on the damaged parts. Approx $1400 just for the parts, not including labor.

Then I went to the local police station and filed a report for the damage.

Called my insurance company (Geico) too and they'll set me up with an adjuster in the next couple of days. They said I wouldn't be at fault and all I'd have to pay is my $200 deductible.

It's not about the money, just the principle of the dang thing. I swear, most people I see nowadays have no respect for other people's property.

I swear if I ever caught anybody messing with my sh*t again, I'd just give 'em a beatdown.

That's it, I'm done. Thanks for letting me vent.

Bummer. Is that red paint transfer on your mirror from a red curb or a red car?

If it is from a red car then there should be a corresponding paint transfer on it. Just a thought.

That completely sucks and I'd be totally pissed too. I'm a little stumped about the damage to the pipe. From what I've seen, the bags usually take all the hit since they stick out farther than the pipe. I was just wondering since something obviously got past the bag. Also, someone is an asshole, but at least they picked it up instead of letting it leak fuel/oil all night. There's no damage to the right side? If not, I wonder if some idiot was sitting on it "trying it out."

Wouldn't surprise me if somebody was walking by, saw the bike, and decided to throw a leg over and see what it was like... realized too late that it was top heavy, and lost it. Said "Oh Sh!t... and stood it back up and hustled the heck out of there.

Oh, and you can scratch the cans in a zero MPH tipover... don't ask me how I know...

Sorry to hear about it... hope everything gets fixed up and you can put it behind you.

IBJanky.....I feel for you, I really do....let me tell you what happened to me.

I have a three week old 08'AE....

The day I bought it I picked the bike up at Yamaha in Meridian MS and took it back to Alabama on a trailer. I had a buddy of mine bring his trailer over (since I don't own one) and we towed the bike home with his Jeep.

We drive down to the court house, trailer and bike in tow, so I can get my tag.

Dumb F*** is driving like a mad man and makes a sharp right turn and "WHAM"...the bike goes over on it's side in the trailer. The strap jerked so had it pulled loose from the side of the trailer rail where it was attached. It put a gash on the fairing right under the right mirror. I rant and cuss and he helps me stand it back up and tie the bike back down. We ratchet the straps really tight to be sure.

As we get to the court house we cant find anywhere to park with the trailer on the back so he decided he is going to pull into the parking lot of the bank across the street. He yanks another hard right, hits the speed bump doing 30mph at the same time and "WHAM"....strap comes loose and the bike falls over again in exactly the same spot. Now the gash is a little bigger and this time scuffs the side bag.

I get out and stood the bike up and hollered at him to lower the trailer ramp. He say's "what are you doing?". I said "You have dumped it twice withing 5 miles and I haven't even got one mile on the odometer yet....I'm riding the F*****, tag or no tag!"

The Dumb F*** doesn't even apologies....he just laughs like it is no big deal.....

And you had to go to traffic court. Just wasn't your week
Hehe, I was the one who wrote the ticket. I'm a motorcop (that's me on my avatar) for the city of L.A.

Still bummed though, and it's my b-day tomorrow. Great b-day karma huh?

That's not red paint from the curb or a car.

It's the paint on the bike itself, scratched to sh*t

A beatdown you say?

Screw that. Don't go Rodney King (Sorry, couldn't resist) on their ass. A .45 caliber slug would do much more nicely.

That sucks. Wouldn't it be nice if people didn't touch things that didn't belong to them...

I have been commuting from Thousand Oaks to Hollywood for the past fifteen years and I think in all that time I've only seen one motorcycle accident. As a motorcop do you see a high percentage of motorcycle accidents?

I have a Honda Shadow, but I didn't use it for commuting to work. Recently I purchased an FJR for the commute, do you have any suggestions or advice on driving the 101 to the 170?

A little detective work here might help a heap.

I work at a large plumbing & heating distributor. Because we have so many trucks of all sizes in & out of our parking lots & yards all day I used to park my gl1800 behind the building next to our pile of skids. One day I came out to find the bike laying on the skids next to our soil pipe. Same types of damage only $1800 estimate - same type of pissed. But wait! next to the bike are broken pieces of a red lens and some red paint on my fairing. I got on our computer & searched for every customer that came to our counter that morning and picked up soil pipe. There were only a few. Bottom line - I found the bastard. It was some kid driving for one of our customers. Happy ending.

I sure am glad that you are in CA and I'm in NH, 'cause I sure hate to have you pull me over today. ;)

Sorry to see that your baby got damaged and the asshat that did it didn't have the balls courtesy to leave contact info. At least they didn't leave it lying in it side. How the heck did they pick it up? Many owners can't do that.

Sounds like your "buddy" wasn't much of a friend. To happen once is an accident. To keep going isn't an accident and would have me talking to his insurance company. To laugh on top means that we'd have a personal problem to work out!!!

Whoever the culprit is should have left a note. Something similar happened to my wife's Ninja 250 while we were away for the week. An asshat in a moving truck (neighbor saw it happen) knocked it over in the parking lot and just let it lay on its side. I guess he thought he didn't have to worry since he was leaving the area.

I'm surprised that the low life who hit it, took the time to pick it up, You would think if they knew thew were going to split without leaving contact info, they'd get out of there right away to try to avoid being seen with it, I wonder if there was a witness, so they played the good guy roll and picked it up till they could make their get away? or it might have even been some one else who knew that pretty FJR shouldn't be laying on it's side?

Any ways, sorry man, thats a bummer, lets hope carma plays it's role here, and the scumb bag gets what he deserves.

That does suck!! A similar thing happened to me at work, at the police station no less. I parked the bike out in the lot and came out at the end of shift. I went to throw my uniform in the side case and saw that it had several large scratches/scuff marks on it. It looked like somebody rubbed something up against the case. i tried to see if I wold be lucky enough to be able to buff them out. NOPE!!! I was really pissed. You'd think that in the station lot it would be safe, but I guess not!!

That's what I'm thinking. Some rider saw it and picked it up.

I have a 15" x .25" line/scrape on one saddlebag and have no idea where it came from, but cught it within 3 days.

Plenty of low-lifes in this world.
