Usually I'm a pessimist, but what if the bike just fell over on its own and someone was nice enough to upright it for you but was afraid they would get blamed for the accident if they wrote a note or stuck around? I have the '05 and unless its on perfectly level ground or favors the correct side its going over- no questions. That's why I never purchased or install the kickstand coaster. As a matter of fact I can't park mine on most streets because the 'crown' causes my bike to be too unstable. I can park 'reversed' at the risk of getting a ticket, I suppose.

That does stink. Sorry to hear you had this incident.

My wife's cage just got side swiped last week on the street. It was parked out front at her job at the curb. From the rear wheel to the front wheel it was dented and scratched, tore the mirror completely off. No note, no witnesses, nada. I feel your pain.

Sorry about that but just in case they print the check in your name I would:

Shop around for the parts at a better price and then put them on myself. Once you pocket the labor charge plus getting the parts cheaper, you might have made 300 bucks or so.

Don't make the rules just follow them!

The're every where! Lasr year I parked my new to me VFR in a level parking spot, and when to watch my Grandson play some soccer. When I came back it's laying on it's right side, with It's little kick stand pointing up in the air.

I went to get a haircut yesterday and left the bike parked in the lot alone for abt 35 minutes. Then, went to the gym and, again, left the bike parked alone for abt 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. This morning I found a large scuff mark on the top of the left saddlebag. I didn't do that because the top box was installed and I step thru, over the front seat, to mount the bike. Someone evidently tried to throw a leg over the passenger seat and dinged the bag. Fortunately, the bike was not dropped and the scuff mark buffed out. I was lucky this time.

I wouldn't dream of opening a stranger's car door and crawling around inside. Motorcycles must be considered "fair game."

Or you might have gotten a note like this one I once read about. Guy comes out, sees his fender or something all bashed in and this note on his windshield: "Sorry I just hit your car. The people watching me think I'm leaving you my name and insurance info, but I'm not."

At the risk of getting your mind to whirring about, does anyone at your girlfriends house know your a cop? I'm a retired Denver COP (Constable on Patrol, for those of you who didn't know the acronym), and for protecting and serving my fellows I was rewarded more than once with keyed cars, etc. Comes with the badge I suppose. I guess I'm suggesting the possibility of a push over and subsequent re-think. You know something a ******* or a drunk might do; you know those folks don't ya?.

And you had to go to traffic court. Just wasn't your week
Hehe, I was the one who wrote the ticket. I'm a motorcop (that's me on my avatar) for the city of L.A.

Still bummed though, and it's my b-day tomorrow. Great b-day karma huh?

mike

Well for what it's worth, Happy B-Day. That really SUCKS about your FJR. That just goes to show what some people are about this day in age.

A Motorcop huh??? You guys don't have "take home" motors??

Thanks :)

We do have take home motors, but I rarely take mine home because I live so close from work. I save my garage space for my other 2-wheeled toys ;)

Thank god the sub-title of this thread was edited. I was having a hell of time figuring out what happened...

And this is what alarms are for. Not for someone trying to steal your bike...but for some ass ******* with it.

Of course there is no certainty that you would have heard the alarm , and woke up in time to see whoever knocked your bike over...but it is about as good as you can get anytime you leave your bike alone somewhere.

I think I would prefer the "silent" alarm that notifies you via a pager like thing. Plenty of time to grab your pants and your piece.

I had a simular thing happend to me , but they did not pick the bike back up. Amazing what leaking gasoline will do to a seat overnight....

Take a close look at those scrapes on the side bags. If the bike just fell over and was picked directly up, there probably wouldn't be long scrapes like that. My guess is either someone backed into it, knocked it over, then continued to push it a few inches. OR someone decided to sit on it, knocked it over, and in either case slid the bike a bit as they tried to get it back vertical again. Either way, it absolutely sucks no one left a note! :angry2:

Sure would be nice if you could find some FJR matching paint scrapes on someone's parked car!

But live and learn. Perhaps I might start parking mine on the center stand. It just might give my bike a flighting chance when some idiot decides they have the right to sit on it.

New product alert!

Velcro one of these puppies in each of the saddlebag lids, rig up a movement trigger, then sit back with the girlfriend and a beer to see who touches the bike!

You might want to have a stock of spare lids for the bags.

Sorry for the incident... that really sucks.

My story: I purchased my AE on a Saturday. Had it one week and one day when my neighbors dad backed into it :angry2: . 252 miles on it!!! My neighbor is a very good friend of mine and his dad is a pretty cool old dude, which are the only two things that saved pop's dentures. He was insured with Geico and he got them on the phone on the spot. They set up the claim and, long story short, did what they were paid to do.

Repairs have been made, bike looks new again, yada, yada, yada. Trust me, I know how angry you are right now and I know that this might fall on death ears but this too shall pass. She'll be pretty again in no time and you'll be able to put this behind you. Stay Safe.

IBJanky.....I feel for you, I really do....let me tell you what happened to me.
I have a three week old 08'AE....

The day I bought it I picked the bike up at Yamaha in Meridian MS and took it back to Alabama on a trailer. I had a buddy of mine bring his trailer over (since I don't own one) and we towed the bike home with his Jeep.

We drive down to the court house, trailer and bike in tow, so I can get my tag.

Dumb F*** is driving like a mad man and makes a sharp right turn and "WHAM"...the bike goes over on it's side in the trailer. The strap jerked so had it pulled loose from the side of the trailer rail where it was attached. It put a gash on the fairing right under the right mirror. I rant and cuss and he helps me stand it back up and tie the bike back down. We ratchet the straps really tight to be sure.

As we get to the court house we cant find anywhere to park with the trailer on the back so he decided he is going to pull into the parking lot of the bank across the street. He yanks another hard right, hits the speed bump doing 30mph at the same time and "WHAM"....strap comes loose and the bike falls over again in exactly the same spot. Now the gash is a little bigger and this time scuffs the side bag.

I get out and stood the bike up and hollered at him to lower the trailer ramp. He say's "what are you doing?". I said "You have dumped it twice withing 5 miles and I haven't even got one mile on the odometer yet....I'm riding the F*****, tag or no tag!"

The Dumb F*** doesn't even apologies....he just laughs like it is no big deal.....
Sounds like your "buddy" wasn't much of a friend. To happen once is an accident. To keep going isn't an accident and would have me talking to his insurance company. To laugh on top means that we'd have a personal problem to work out!!!

That is the biggest nightmare friggen story ever. I would have been doing some serious time if that had happened to me. Id would have wiped the grin off his face with my foot. Crap, I'd like to meet him now. Really feel for ya.

 Would you have any spares you wouldn't mind selling?

Hey neighbor - just noticed your location - right next door! In fact, I'm sending this from work, in your home city right now.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the damage to your bike. That sucks that no-one took responsibility for it.

Insurance check came in. Rather than buy another stock pipe, I thought I'd get some aftermarket slip ons. I don't want to spend more than $800-$900 either.

Pic of bike for reference:
