Now I know why they are called "HOGS".

over on the HOG forum right now there is a thread from two guys who are telling the story of how they were out enjoying their ride ....when an impatient power ranger almost killed himself and them by recklessly splitting them in a turn.
The wheels on the bus go round and round...

And they never stop turning! I guess it just depends on your perspective. Since all is relative, I prefer to just assume I'm right! Taff made a "split decision.

Harley Riders don't use mirrors they firmly believe that one must have "loud pipes" to be recognized. BTW, them pipes save lives just like their little skid lids they wear. <_<
" Loud Pipes " about got me in trouble...

I "Once" went on a MC trip with a good friend and his Harley buddies.. We turned onto the entance ramp and with a Great Roar the 3 Harley's in front of me took off.... I thought ,,, Yea, let's go !! So I twisted the throttle on my V-max...

HOLY ****,,, they aren't moving,,,,screamed in my head,, stood on the brakes,,, almost ran right up the ass of the Harley in front of me,,,

So just because they are making lots of noise , doesn't mean they are going anywhere..

And one of the guys was proud of the fact he only paid $15 for his nazi helmet ,,, but he had to pay $25 for the nazi helmet his grandson was wearing,,, Just put my full face Shoei on and got back on the bike..

Yes folks another little story, and a true one at that
Twas on my way to work on "Mr Rocket" today when I was waiting for the lights to turn green.

Down from the North direction (opposite road, left of me) appear two HD cool dudes and turn left up the road I am about to travel East on.

Now, this road has two lane's West bound and two lane's East bound, separated by a center turn median and several "nice" sweepers left and right!

Having just overtaken two cages, I can't help but notice that the two HOG riders are each in their own lane riding "left track" and are side by side, making it almost impossible for any car or other biker to pass.

I saw both riders check me out in their mirrors (My brights were on so as to allow them time to re-position) but still they were not willing to let me pass, or get in one lane.

Having done the usual mental gymnastics, can I do the pass safely etc, and in giving these riders due time and consideration, Mr Rocket and I did the bad deed.

Now folks, I do not usually do this and therefore I apologise but I changed down a gear, putting the engine revs at what I call "after burner crackling sound" and "threaded the needle" right between them.

The HOG's were even more surprised as I was also taking the left hand sweeper at the same time, so my guess is that they thought that this pass could not happen at the sweeper.

Anyway, I always pick my time and place and know the road well so no big deal for me.

They must have heard and felt Mr.Rocket as I passed them both :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :assassin: :assassin:

FYI, my speed was well within the speed limit before anybody asks!

Now, flame suit on, stand back and get the Halon extinguisher.
Totally rightious move!

Taff,

Some ass-hole did the same thing to me the other day, except he was in a 3/4 ton truck and would not pass the truck in front of him on his right. He stayed in that guy's blind spot just to keep me from passing. I wasn't sure it was on purpose until he looked at me in his side mirror and mouthed something I couldn't make out. So I passed him on the shoulder and gave him the finger. **** or get off the pot I say...

MadMike? Is that you...?

--------------------------------------------

Anyway, we came across a similar, single-rider situation on a recent ride, which I described in the post thus: "And a special mention to yesterday's Hardley poseur who robbed us of some of the best twisties going back up over the hills to lunch in Livermore when, seeing six headlights suddenly appear on his tail, refused--ever--to nudge to the right of his lane and let us pass, forcing us for several miles to act like weekend riders on low-performance machines. You're a dick. Learn how to ride."

---------------------------------------------

I had a similar situation, only with two Corvettes. It was a two-lane section of rural freeway (two lanes each direction). I came up to the Vets, which were running side by side, talking across to each other, no doubt admiring their mutual good taste (at the risk of insulting fellow forum members, I will withhold my opinion of Corvettes). After it was clear they were not going to move, naturally I.... [i invoke the Fifth Amendment. I'll tell you about it at NAFO. But I CAN tell you that an FJR is quicker than a Vet. ]

Good for you!

I was nearly "mown down" a couple of weeks ago on HWY 18 by a trucker (he was no more than a couple of feet of my rear end).

The moron never saw how many State Patrol cages (un-marked as well) on the other side of the highway, that is why I slowed to the speed limit.

How can I respect professional truck drivers when this pr**k clearly tried to run me over (not all truckers are like this I know).

Now, I motioned to him that I was going to call on a phone and made sure he saw me check his plate number.

Once I had done that, woosh I was off and he slowed down a "craw" :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Be safe out there peeps!

had something like that happen once. a guy was considering an FJR but was trying to find one to demo. i insisted he try mine and, at his insistance, held his M-endorsed DL while following him on his Honda Shadow 1100. he was trying the throttle a little, easing ahead, falling back etc. but was gradually pulling away, so i rolled on the Shadow's thottle. It got loud but did absolutely nothing wrt changes in speed. DANG!

All very true, I am a hypocrit or you could chalk it up to being a wiser man. I used to have loud pipes on all my bikes to be "cool" and I did enjoy the sound on the sport bikes but never the Harley. When I lived in CA and white lined I felt safer with loud pipes. But the hypocrisy to say they save lives and wear a novelty helmet is absurd which when I was young and ignorant was guilty of. I am lucky to have lived long enough to see the error in my ways.

I was riding my typical route to work which is a two lane road that's a residential/commercial road with a speed limit that starts at 55 MPH and eventually goes down to 25 MPH (when you get into the town of Hampton). I was doing my usually 10 miles over the speed limit and this guy on a cruiser gets behind me. I swear this guy is riding behind me like he knows me (At first I thought he did), what I mean is that he's staggered and riding only a few feet behind me. This goes on for a mile or so, and all of sudden when I wasn't looking this ****** passes me in the same lane!!!! I was not expecting this and it was good thing that I didn't drift over at the same time he was passing. In fact I was so rattled by this that I was about to chase this ******* down, but I somehow managed to get myself back under control.

So Taff, I agree that those HD riders where being pricks, but IMO I think it was real stupid what you did. All it would of taken is just one of them ASSHATS to drift over un-expectently and there would of been an unnecessary crash and possible injury.

When I'm in "commuting mode" and another motorcycle catches me, I usually motion for them to pass. Many are more aggressive than I (I know some of you don't believe that!), so I give them the room they need....even in the same lane. I'm of the opinion that if they "caught me" in traffic, they want to ride faster than I.

An interesting aside to that...a couple of times it has been Policemen, either CHP or local PD motor officers. Every biker I've waved around has waved or nodded. YMMV.

I have suffered the same issue Taff brought up. Two weekend ago I was traveling a local 2 lane road that splits into 4 lanes at stop signs and signals. I couldn't figure out why the traffic was going so slowly until I looked between the cars and saw a group of 4 motorcycles. They were riding 5-10 mph below the speed limit and at every "wide spot" they'd split and take up both lanes on our side so that no one could pass them.

Since we are allowed to "lane share", I maneuvered between the cars until I was following the bikes. At the next opportunity, when they AGAIN played "traffic blockade", I rode the center-line and "Taffed" them.

Yes, I am a baaaad man. When I got home I sent myself to my room and warned myself to "not slam the door". However, I didn't ground myself for life.

Agree with you with regard to those riders "possibly closing the door".

However, they were not expecting me to pass them in the sweeper so that is why I "took my prisoners" there :yahoo: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :yahoo: :yahoo: :assassin: :assassin:

I'm afraid I've done the same thing when a group of posers were intentionally blocking my pass. I also sometimes display my middle finger during the pass... dickwads.

No complaints about your technique from me. We do it to them all the time out here. Not that sportbikers are saints on the road.
