Hi all,

I seemed to be hi-jacking Longrider's thread so I will move my riding tale here.

I made it to Fargo, ND yesterday after riding across WI and MN. the road conditions were good some of the scenery was very nice but pretty flat and straight. Good for making time though which was my objective. Now that I have made it here I am having my bike serviced and then a short 200km ride to my cousin's place in Carrington, ND. After 3700 km in 4 days my *** and knees want a break. I mentioned before that I installed highway pegs and they have been great. Just being able to move my leg position has permitted me the 12 hour days I have been doing.

Yesterday was pretty hot at times and it got me thinking about the WFO ride to Moab. My wife really wants to do that ride but I am sure the heat I experienced yesterday was nothing compared to the Utah heat. We are thinking about doing that route on Friday of the rally. Is anyone else planning to do it?

There was also a mention of brunch in Sundance on Sunday. I made reservations for noon in case anyone else is planning to head there.

Well I shall continue this later.

Hi Gypsy,

Last year, with 104-106 degree heat just south of Salt Lake City, I found my mesh jacket, a wet bandana around the neck, & a constantly wet t-shirt helped me stay cool. It's a great ride, don't miss it, just pack some extra water for 'dowsing'...

Update:

Well I went to University Motors and got Avon Storms and an oil change. They were great to deal with and nice folks. After this I had a short day and only rode to Carringto ND where my cousin lives. Spent the night there and toured the Dakota Growers Pasta Co. Plant where her husband works. It was quite interesting to see the process that wheat goes through to become my Kraft Mac & Cheese! Well actually only the Mac.

Today it was Carrington ND to Mobridge SD. It was a fast, hot ride down 1804 (the Lewis & Clark Trail). This is my first experience riding in this part of the US and the wind can really blast you. There were a couple times when I was busy grooving to Green Day and got blown across the road. Fortunately there were no other vehicles around. In the 2 hours I was on 1804 I saw about a dozen cars and only 1 bike.

OK so today was fairly uneventful with the exception of the deer that came bolting out of the woods right in the city of Bismark ND. It turned just before the asphalt and ran alongside me for a moment. I gave me a bit of a shock and reminded me to be more vigilant.

woo-hoo Gypsy.. at least you have a route.

i'm leaving at 0300 and don't know yet where i'll end up..

Well FastJoyRide (Dave), his wife Sylvia and I just pulled into Fort Collins CO. We met up yesterday in Rapid City SD after a very hot day of riding. I starte yesterday in Mobridge SD and headed for Sturgis. After all if you are in the area you really have to go and get the t-shirt. It was up to 46 degrees in the cockpit of my FJR which translates too really f'ing hot in Fahrenheit...but as they say it is a dry heat which makes it only just bearable. I Sturgis I met up with a guy who is on the last leg of a 2 year around the world bike trip. Erik is from Norway and if you are interested in more here is his website. https://www.eriksaue.com/. He was heading east and we were on out way to Colorado so we parted ways at Mount Rushmore. Then we stopped to see and the Crazy Horse monument. This trip is about riding so we didn't go into either park just stopped and saw the monuments.

After this we blasted south to Cheyenne and then on to Fort Collins. Not much to report on this leg as we were in a hurry to get to the mountains. So tomorrow exploring CO begins.
