One thing I'm good at is asking the dumb ones.

I'm almost done with my PC install. Nowhere in my instructions does it say to disconnect the O2 sensor?

However, Warchild's article on fjrtech.com mentions that Dynojet says to do this and I have heard others talk about it as well so I am confused.

WTF?

You must disconnect the O2 sensor (gray plug on right) or it will override the instructions from your PC III.

I did this mod two years ago and still marvel at the improvement in mid range torque, smoothness,"driveability" and cooler running. Mileage went from ~44 to ~ 40 mpg.

I don't have one, but if you don't, the FI will run in closed loop mode, eliminating the PCIII map altogether. You must disconnect the sensor in order to force open loop mode.

Thanks everyone. That's what I figured but being a newbie at such things I had a question mark in my head.

I installed the PC today with the Wally Smoothness map. Wow! This is a HUUUUUUGE difference. Since I have Holeshots I guess I'll give the Dale Walker map a try as well and see if I like it.

A special thanks to Bike Effects who I purchased the Power Commander from. He called me personally to give me tips on how to install. When he couldn't reach me, he kept trying until we hooked up. That's customer service!

Man, if you hadn't have told me about those damn connectors I would have been pushing on those little tab thingies all damn day!

One more question. On the PCIII site you can upgrade (with software I guess) your PCIII to include an accelerator pump. Does anyone know what this does?

When you POP the throttle open the 'accelerator pump' produces a quick shot of gas to help the engine speed up.

Search on Pciii Accelerator Pump Function for a previous thread on this.

Below this line lies more information than what you might want to know:

====================================================

In the olden days of carburetor fed engines, fuel was sucked into the carb by fast flowing air through the throttle body. When you would 'floor it' the sudden opening of the throttle plate(s) would still the air flow for a tiny fraction of time. In steps the accelerator pump to help the engine get over this sudden lean condition. An accelerator pump typically was a little chamber full of gas and a plunger. When you floored it, the little mechanical plunger would forcefully inject all the gas from the chamber into the carb. Voila, instant acceleration.

Feejer is fuel injected so in theory when the engine needs a little boost the ECU should tell the injectors to deliver a little extra fuel. [speculation] The fuel shot may be a bit short of what is needed to keep EPA happy. [/speculation]

My last few motorcycles have had immediate and powerful response to POPPING the throttle. I feel that Feejer is very lacking below 6k RPM. Hey, it's what I was use to. Coming off a 250cc Rebel Feejer may be intimidating  Anyhoo, I added the 'Pump to my PCIII and it sure helped my perception of forceful acceleration.

Well I got to try the accelerator pump then. Sounds like fun, and you can disable it if it's not to your liking.

If anyone wants to know what it's like I'll report back.

Been running Wally's map since he first released it. No complaints here. P3 on an '03 with D&D cans.

I tried the Holeshot map today and like it quite a bit. I don't know what kind of mileage I'll get but I like the feel of the bike with this map. I like it better than the smoothness map.

Third acceleration is crazy. When I passed a car today, the throttle response was so good it threw off my concentration and I forgot to signal going back into my lane.

It's almost like a different engine and almost as smooth as the FZ1. Amazing. I can't wait to try the accelerator pump thingy. I'm sure it's a gas guzzler.

Actually, the O2 sensor info is in the form of a note on the bottom of the Power Commander software screen.

I'm running the Dale Walker map w/ the accelerator pump feature enabled ... I like it better than Wally's smoothness map. Still checking the fuel comsumption.

It is amazing how much better my FJR runs ... smoother, quicker, I don't notice the handlebar buzz @ 4000-4500 rpms anymore ... the highway roll ons are almost scary !! Worth every penny.

Are you running different exhaust?

Where did you get the map?

Thanks

The map can be downloaded from powercommander.com

Yes, I'm running the Dale Walker HoleShot slip-ons, a K&N filter and the O2 sensor disconnected.

As XLR8 says, the DW map is on the Power Commander web site.

When I got the DW slip-ons, I had e-mailed Dale to ask his recommendations ... he said the Wally smoothness map was best. IMHO Dale's is better !!
