'16 ES.....I'll preface this with the note that this is first time I actually hooked up the OBDII adapter cable to the bike and attempted to read codes. I did read codes in DIAG mode on my '06 several times. Obviously a different animal. And I'm using a cheap bluetooth OBDII reader I got off Amazon and the Torque Pro app.

Had some throttle smoothness issues surface recently and wanted to see if any codes were thrown (e.g., TPS). I got three codes, none of which are listed in the factory service manual. Not sure if is result of the Torque Pro app being designed for cars.

Anyway, here are the codes:
C1555 'chassis'
P1EC3 'engine'
P1EF5 'engine'.

Searches have yielded nothing.

I cleared the codes. I need to take it for a ride to see if it runs better or if they come back. I had the recall done a year ago in April and not sure if the codes are related to that, but I would think the dealer would have cleared them. Also have Ivan's reflash. That seems to be operating normally, as I have the three ride modes and the fans kick on earlier. Throttle was buttery smooth after the reflash.

Not sure if I had a bad tank of gas.

Well I took it for a ride after I cleared the codes, and the throttle response was the same, i.e., not good. But only one code returned, the P1EC3 code.

Anyone have any experience with the GEN III OBD codes?

Nothing specific to the FJR, but basic Googling and I see it's a generic ODB-II code that supposedly common and applies to various makes and model. I'm just tossing up some bricks here from one or two threads I saw:
  • Rough running engine due to misfiring plugs.
  • Faulty Intake Manifold Runner Control actuator relay (or alternate if equipped)
  • Air leak oxygen sensor would also cause a lean mixture.
Maybe try the other codes in Google with words like "ODB-II", "Yamaha", etc. in the string to narrow or broaden.

Apparently the last part of the codes are in hex. But converting didn't really help.

I pulled the plugs just to be sure and they were fine. I did a resistance check on the TPS per the FSM and got 0.85 KOhms. FSM says it should be between 1.2-2.8 Kohms. So that may be the problem. But you need the Yamaha diagnostic tool to adjust the setting. Are new TPS units pre-adjusted? If I get a new one and can't adjust it, doesn't reallly help me, I'm guessing.

TPS resistance.. I seem to remember IonBeam stating that nominal resistance wasn't important... as I had a brand new TPS that wasn't 'in spec'... Rather, what's important is the 'span' or 'range' of resistance from 0 to 100% throttle setting. The ECU cares only about the 'span' and not the initial reference point in ohms. IIRC of course...

Try searching TPS and Ionbeam....

Update: Changed out the TPS this morning. Checked the calibration against the original's: lower reading was spot on, higher reading was off by a few tenths of a percent. Took it for a test ride. Throttle is now back its buttery smooth goodness that Ivan's reflash brings. No more herky jerky responses. Interestingly, still getting the P1EC3 "Powertrain" code. I wonder if its related to the ECU and the reflash.
