Fremont, Ca north of San Jose, south of Oakland, 40 minutes to San Francisco. House is 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1600 sq. ft. house. Paid $236,000 in 1996, today about $680,00, the market has slowed. Taxes on house $3200, $14 hair cut, $2.70 for 87 octane gas.My 14 year old daughter now lives with mom full time so thinking of going home to be with family in the next 2-3 years. South Dakota, same house as in Fremont, $120,000. New home, 2000 sq ft, $160,000. Rest of the necessities about the same. In the state of Ca. there is a figure floating around the average tax payer spends 55 cents of every dollar they make on taxes.

TWN the housing cost differential is truly amazing. My wife is from a small town in N Cali, Lafayette. When her father died we sold his house for 450,000. That was in 96. It was 2,200 feet built in 1960. I wouldn't have given a plug nickle for it. Her Aunt and Uncle lived in the hills of Berzerkley and we sold that home for for 475,000. It was only1800 sq ft. Now that was a great view. You could see Oakland, the Bay bridge, S.F., Alcatraz, Golden Gate, Sausilito, Martinez. It was an unbelievable view. But take away the view and you wouldn't get 85,000 for the house here. And the quality of construction was less than optimal. But, its all about the location.

Just in case you wanted to know, if you feel your property taxes are incorrect (and many are), you can call your tax assessor's office and ask what it takes to appeal you assessment. I did, won, and got a lower tax bill.

The tax authorities rely on most doing nothing, even though they know they are incorrect...but will reconsider their assessment on those who do know and have the right information.

Give it a try, the system works when you know how to use and save some $$$$.

My day started off getting a letter from the village telling me that the tax assessment on my 1300 square foot little shitbox of a house is going to go from a 2006 value of $646,000 to a 2007 value of $1,096,000. :glare: Factoring that out, I figure that every time I cut my grass last summer I increased the value on my house by $22,000.00. I then strolled across the street and got a small cup of coffee...$1.35. Since I couldn't make it to the barber without getting gas I stopped to get some regular petrol at Hess...$2.62/gallon. A quick drive to Vinny the Chop for a haircut....$17.00. Living in some other area of the US...Priceless.
And still some of my customers have the balls to bitch when they get a bill....Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
I'm just a little offended Axe! I only have a 1260 sq. ft tiny shitbox

If you're looking for sympathy, it's in the dictionary between **** & Syphilis! :assassin:

Needless to say my crapper of a house is only worth $400K+

Goin' out to the Garage to sharpen the blades on the lawnmower..........

Cheers,

Bryce

Thats it, Ray wins. You need a neighbor?

Stafford, VA (N. VA)

2,117 SqFt house - 163k in 93, now ~400k

Property taxes - ~2,800

Gas - 2.05/Gal regular

H/C - 15

42 miles to DC - move north 10 miles and add 100k to house price!

how can that be? Between stories of drive-bys and gang violence, the guyz, in my Army unit, from the NYC area went to great lengths to explain how every place else wasn't sh!t.

Gas $1.95

Haircut $9.00

Coffee (i grind my own beans and make my own espresso @ ~$10 a pound for premium beans from a local coffee house - 4 Star Coffee Bar)

When in a hurry, and willing to settle for lesser quality, a quad grande latte' at Starphuques is under $5 and a coffee at work is $4 a month for the coffee club.

oh yeah, house: 10-year-old 2400 sq/f on a small city lot is currently appraised at about $150k and will be paid off within the next 5 years.

did anyone mention that tx doesn't have an income tax?
