I'm departing late this evening or super early in the morning for Omaha. Beeroux is entertaining myself and others in the 2008 SPANK rally....by sending us.....who knows where.

See www.mattwatkins.org/ibr09 for blogging at least before the event...and possibly some commentary during.

Regardless, I'll have my trusty orange SPOT unit turned on and location transmitted here.

I can't stomach the thought of I-80 across Wyoming again since I was there 8 days ago...so I'm adding 50 miles to the ride and taking I-90 through Montana and South Dakota.

I've found the best way to not be bored by boring roads is to simply close my eyes!

Good luck Iggie!

The only difference between I-90 and I-80 is the pavement condition. The wind is gonna suck.

It's humid/hot as all-get-out in the midwest too; stay cool and hydrated.

Wish I could take the time from work to see you mucks off.

Good luck, ride safe, don't break

Man, what kinda jobs do you guys have that allow all this time off for rallies? I must be in the wrong business. I can barely manage to get 10 days a year off , and that's a combination of sick AND vacation! My life sucks

I arrived at the hotel about 2 hours ago.
And I realized something.

Nebraska is effing flat.

See Spot Run

I'll keep an eye out fer ya, Iggy !!
Happy to know you arrived safely, hot and flat and WINDY in the summer, and cold, flat and WINDY in the winter. Papillion just south of Omaha is my old stomping grounds while in USAF back in the 70-80s. Great steaks in many of the resturants around town. Good luck to you and all in the Spank.

That link to the Spot web site that shows your real-time travels is very cool. It would be especially cool for those that do off road adventure riding in BFE and whatnot.

I got a call from Matt Thursday evening. Unfortunately I missed the call and it went to my voice mail. He gave a run-down of his itinerary and thoughts. At the end he said ...I think it's ok if you want to share this, as everyone would have committed to *their* route by now.
So I waited unitl this morning ..and here is a paraphrase of what Matt said:

-I'm in Salt Lake City -heading west ...reno then up 395to

*Redding for the 1st blue pack bonus

*LowCal (he said SoCal) for #2 and #3 blue pack. (pinks hot dogs, museum of arts)

(?)*San Diego Balboa Park for #4 blue bonus

(?)*Las Vegas (RTE bonus)

He mumbled something about a possible Sequoia stop ~?~?

He then said he'd be heading to the NE for the companion(?) bonuses.

His finall remark: I haven't seen anyone, I don't know if that means I don't have a clue, or maybe that I do have a clue ......it sounds like he's very focused on a good ride, but keeping all in perspective.

Now, this info was given to me in a frenzy, likely at a gas stop or something ...but I think I've translated it pretty well., I waited until this morning to post it. By now he'd be well on is way to LowCal.

Good luck Matt! we're having fun sharing your adventure!

Oh, because I know they don't stay forever, here is a screen shot of taken at the time of this posting:

Oh, and I'm putting these on Matt's blog as well ...just as commets at this point. (blog linked above)

Thanks for posting and the screen shot RJ.

Thanks for taking the time to share Iggy. C'Ya at the Vegas RTE!

That's awesome, thanks for the link!

It's fun to do a distance/time calculation along the straight stretches.

Poor Iggy. Looks like he is slogging through much interstate hell. Including his the sections through Nebraska and Wyoming he loves so much.

True, but on this particular ride, he's not all that much interested in scenery, anyway...

Friday 2:40p

Just got off the phone with Matt ..He called from Pinks. He hit both the LowCal bonuses (museum and was standing in line at Pinks). So he has those plus Redding.

He now has a leisurely pace ahead to get the bonus RTE bonus in Vegas, then it seems he'll be heading east. He sounded GREAT! Perhaps a bit bummed that San Diego will not be in the mix, but he was in *great* spirits.

Said he saw another rider, I didn't ask, he didn't say. I got the inference that the other rider was there at Pinks(?). He mentioned the other person went to San Diego and not Redding and was likely ahead on points by a bit(?)

Keep riding hard matt, we're following you.

Sitting in eeksnake's home in Henderson NV waiting with baited breath for the Spank 2 Rally Pack. Then my 5 Day trek ending at 0700MDT in Tulsa will end. Heading out to have dinner with GunMD tonight in Lost Wages NV and plan on rolling some bones also!! Then head west to LoCal and Pinks and beyond tomorrow. 110* in Baker CA this afternoon when I passed through.

More reports to follow

The things we do for points. Actually I-80 was FAR more enjoyable than my ugly slog through the San Joaquin Valley on I-5 today.

**** me to tears....it wiped me out in the heat....and I wanted to take a bazooka to stupid people. If it weren't for falling in behind an AE on I-10 exiting that shithole and lane sharing well......and then falling in behind a CHiP that showed us how to lane share at 85 mph including a three foot wide painted line in the HOV lane!

I tried to get greedy and grab 5 "blue bonuses", but fell short because Pink's line...and missed San Diego. Kicking myself for not doing that one differently. However, I think many set their sites on one or maybe two blue bonues.....if I can convert the four I still should finish well.

I'm in the Venetian Casino right now...looking and smelling badly.....and it's very swank except for me and Heidi.

We're waiting for GunMD to be here in about 35 minutes. Then it's off to the east.

I had hoped to make it to D.C., but the calcs today kept coming back badly....and I had underestimated the trip by like half a day. To meet up with him I'd have to do 2400 miles in like 35 hours....and there's no way.

My plan now is to get to St. George and get some real sleep....maybe in a hotel! I've done only 2 hours in the dirt and on some grass and stupid at this point....and running too much of a deficit.

Then off to Mt. Evans and then slog to D.C. a day later than planned for a couple bonii. Then up to Rhode Island, Maine, and then Montreal.....which I'm hoping are still doable.

Then back to Tulsa...hopefully by way of Chicago and Milwaukee.

I'd do a print screen, but I don't have time and the mental energy to complete it.......I'm crispy. ;)

10:40a Saturday

Just got a call from Matt

He was nearing I-70 where he'll be heading east.

Long stop over in Cedar City vicinity where he said he got some sleep and a "MUCH BETTER ATTITUDE" Apparently the heat from going down I-5 corridor, then dealing with LowCal ..then battling the friday traffic to Vegas got him a bit pissy. Says he's much better now after sleep and a shower.

He's heading east toward Mt. Evans, then (?)Boulder, (?)Louisville ...and eventually to the D.C. area where the "companion" bonuses to the LowCal bonuses are located.

I'm sure more details as what/where those are when get gets closer.

So RJ, is it true you wear a nice little plaid skirt when playing secretary? LOL

Edit - very nice of you to take Iggie's calls and keep up posted dude - Tx.
