Ohlin YA053 Rear Shock?

Hello: Just bought a 2008 FJR and am looking at upgrading the rear suspension per comments here. Sounds like the Penske is highly recommended. Some of the prices I'm seeing on the various Ohlins aren't as bad as I thought so would consider them as well. I have other bikes for more aggressive riding and am looking for something in the mid-range for the rear shock for a fat guy. I never ride two up.

I found this Ohlins listed for the FJR but a google search of this site turns up nothing. It's shown as $555 at Hardracing.com. Does anyone have experience with this shock? Thanks, Toukow

The YA053 (aka Type S46DR1) is a basic monotube (no external reservoir) shock with rebound damping adjustment. Take a look at this site and scroll down for the explanation of the Ohlins codes.

If you can wait until April, swing by Tech Day at Auburn's place. There will be a lot of aftermarket shocks to look at and get opinions on the benefits / drawbacks of each.

You should be able to purchase a brand new Ohlins YA-036 in the $750 range. I would spend the extra money for the adjustments and features.

I will try and stop by especially since it's so close. Thanks for mentioning it and I'll review the thread you mentioned previously for details.

I'm sure this is good advice and I'll regret not spending the extra for the increased adjustability. I don't feel I need the YA707's remote preload so this or the Penske 8983 will probably be where I end up. Seems the Ohlin is less expensive and can't go wrong with the brand, in general. I have one on the Gixxer. Thanks for comments, Toukow
