Guys changed oil to mobil1 today after 2000km after having mineral based in her from new, and noticed some very fine, tiny shiny glittery bits of metal in the bottom of the oil pan used to collect old oil. Is this normal or should I start to drink some warm beer. Hope this isnt a stupid question :( , but never owned anything new and want to keep on top of things.

Normal for the first couple of oil changes.

There are lots of surfaces being honed by running the machine. That's why some of us made our first changes "early".

Thanks madmike, was thinking that might be the case but wasnt sure mate. Think I'll go back to drinking beer as now I feel so much better :yahoo:

Hot damn...another oil thread. 10W-40 will work fine. Check your brand (if they mentioned it for you) for additives if you're concerned. If not, just change regularly and you'll be fine.

Want more info? Here's a really good site: Oil Info Here.

Note well what the author says about multigrade group III oils regading 10W-40. Just change regularly...that's the ticket.

Cheers,

W2

Gunny!
Clutch particles, well more like small microns of clutch wear, metalic wear etc is normal. You should see my dirt bike oil! :dribble:

Now if it's real course stuff like that giant metal flake from the 70's you may have an issue. But some gleam from metailc particals too small to make out but they reflect in light happens.

Have another warm beer, no worries.

Ride safe.

Bluesman you got it all in one, some gleam from metallic particles. Sorry to bore ye all with another olive oil question, but its made me feel better now :) knowing its normal.
