Hi

I am new here. I just picked up a 2006 FJR. Based on the 75 miles I have on it so far I am impressed.

I have a quick question about oil for my final drive. I have searched but can't seem to find any postings concerning final drive oil. The manual only says to use the Yamaha oil. It says nothing about what weight or type. In my other shaft drive bikes (an ST1100 and a BMW R1100) I used Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil. Is this OK, or is the Yamaha oil special in some way.

I don't want to start an oil thread, but there doesn't seem to be much information on this.

Yes the Mobil Synth will work ok as reported here by others. I'm still working my way through the special yammi fluid, but will be switching over when the time comes.

75W-90 IIRC is what's being recommended.

I hear most people put Whale Jizz in their rear ends.... :haha:

That's an eskimo thing that we don't talk about....our wives would not appreciate it.

You don't have a wife. So no one cares where you put your jizz. :D

hypoid gear oil, 80/90 is what you want, synth or mineral is up to you and your wallet.

seal giz in the bay area.....say it ain't so. That's gay, dude. By the way, is a seal's ass watertight?

I just changed my differential lube and went with the Shell Rotella 80/90 as I have been using the Rotella 5W/40W synthetic in the crankcase with much satisfaction. Seems like a good product line. Being cheap at Wal-Mart doesn't hurt either. :D
