Good day to one and all. I have a 2001 FJR 1300 with 16000kms on the clock. I have developed a small oil leak comming from between the clutch release cylinder and the engine. I have a picture of the clutch release cylinder (from the service manual) but nowhere does it show if there is some form of gasket or not. As I intend to pull the clutch release cylinder this comming weekend I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me to the gasket situation, if it has one. Maybe an O ring. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Might not be oil at all........brake fluid perhaps. Bike that old with such limited use, is bound to have a dried out seal or two. If it is oil, there is a small seal that goes around the shaft (that goes through the case to the clutch plates) OIL SEAL,SDO-TYPE 93109-08061-00. If it's brake fluid, you'll need to rebuild the push cylinder (if it can be) I could not find a repair kit for it, the web sites only list the whole unit as a replacement

PUSH LEVER COMP. 5JW-16381-00-00 Give that a try.

Att mattster31,

Thanks a lot for your reply. It is definately oil so it must be that oil seal you mentioned. I am going to order it.

Thanks again.

Thanks to mattster31 I now know that my oil leak, from between the clutch release cylinder and the engine, is caused by a bad oil seal through which the push rod runs. My question is, has anyone ever had to replace that oil seal. My main concern is the fact that behind the push rod is a BALL. If i remove the push rod, to remove and replace the seal, will the ball stay in position???

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

If you lay the bike down on its right side it should.

If this is the same configuratiion as the old FJR-1200 and I think it is then you can use a small magnet to pull that ball bearing out before you begin work.

Post a few pics if you can.

I don't think it will go anywhere because it is inside the transmission shaft.

Good day to one and all. My oil leak ended up being a clutch fluid leak. Without disconnecting the cluch pipe i removed the push lever complete. I inspected the oil seal and it was bone dry. Gently pulling the clutch lever i got the piston out. Light brown sludge poured out. I cleaned out the clutch master cylinder and flushed the pipe etc with new clutch fluid. I cleaned the piston and seal. I put it all together and bled the clutch. I have done approx 120km riding since and there is no leak. It is obvious that the sludge was stopping the seal from sealing properly. For those who do not know, at the bottom of the housing where the push lever complete bolts onto, there is a small slot in the housing. I would say the slot is there to alert you of a cluth fluid or oil leak. There is no gasket there.
