For those who have asked about what the SAE Starburst and non-starburst logos look like, here's a link that shows all 3.

It now looks like (if I read this right) that there may be 2 logos to avoid (starburst and energy-conserving doughnuts). So, even if it doesn't have the starburst, an EC identifier might flag it as something to avoid.

 
Not quite right there ole Bounce....the starburst symbol is not to be avoided! It simply indicates certification by the American Petroleum Institute...nothing wrong with that. It often is shown in tandem with the "service" symbol. Only the energy conserving mark (as well as oils graded as "CD"), are to be avoided. B)

 
I was going to comment, but it's not Friday. I only dogpile on Friday. (I'm trying to cut back)

 
Word of truth, man. Those dogpiles are saturated with calories. If I don't cut back, my butt will swell to the size of J-Lo's.

 
If the following symbols are on the package, it means the oil is okay.
