So now we're as good as the Brits. They have British Superbikes, and we have American Superbikes.
Daytona Sportbike consolidates Supersport and Formula Xtreme, the difference between which I was never clear on anyway. And they get to make everybody say "Daytona!"
Supersport becomes the name for Superstock, but now on the smaller bikes.
And since there's not enough race time any more (5 classes down to 3) they invite the MOTO-ST guys, but change
their name, too.
Have I got it right?
You have to laugh, because the initial stated purpose of this fiasco was to clear up confusion in the class structure. Then they discovered that to keep mfrs interested they couldn't go all goofy with the classes the way they wanted, so they just kept them almost the same and renamed them. Again.
OK, OK, OK. I'm leaving out a lot of important details. I actually like this announcement, I think. I honestly never understood why Xtreme and Supersport both existed. Getting some twins and triples (if they come and play) has to add to the fun. Removing the MOTO-ST "twins-only" restriction has to add to those guys' fun, too, but I notice that not much was actually specified about that in the announcement. Is MOTO-ST (sorry, MOTO-GT) still gonna be dyno-rated for classification? And then what becomes the difference in bikes between MOTO-ST (damn! MOTO-GT) and Supersport or Sportbike? Besides actually having pit stops and stuff? (Class confusion? Again?)
And what happened to
these guys? Anything actually coming from that front?
