Old seat belt protects rim

While using hand tools to dismount/mount a tire I used pieces of an old car seat belt to protect the rim from the hand tools. The belt appeared to provide very good protection for the rim. The belt is dense, tough material and it folds to the contours of the rim and tire very nicely. And it was free from a local auto salvage yard.

 
Rim protectors are good-I prefer squares of leather from an old pair of welding gloves..Very handy are tire buddies-little plastic horseshoes that clip on the rim and hold the tire bead down in the well-especially on the bottom side of the wheel while you are trying to push the top bead down.. Keeping both top and bottom bead in the well is the key to levering on the tire..
