For those out there that change their own tires and do the same for others, how do you dispose of the old tires?

I don't toss them in the dumpster at work, that would be illegal. :p

A lot of motorcycle shops will take your old tires away and dispose of them properly for a fee. Call your local shops.

I have a friendly local garage that let's me toss 'em in the pile of used car tires out back.

Another guy I know cuts the old ones up with a sawzall and puts the pieces in a garbage bag with the regular trash. No idea if that's allowed or not.

Used to take them to a Waste Mangement site, and pay a $7.00 fee. Then I found out that my local Sears auto center will take them at no charge.

We have a county recycle center; they take tires there. (the state has a tire impact fee if you buy a new tire so they get their money upfront if you buy the tire in-state).

I change tires for my friends, the cost to them is they have to take our tires to the local dump. No extra charge past the yearly dump fee.

I don't throw them in the dumpster either [even tho they sort them out at the landfill].

I take them to the dump, known as the "convience center", and pay one buck to have them do whatever is they do with them.

If the trash pickup doesn't take them, there's a bunch of places around here to toss stuff. Wipe any fingerprints off first, though!

EDIT: if you think I'm going to pay for the landfill to take them, after I've already paid the Florida tire disposal fee, you're sadly mistaken.

Ours down this way is 2.00 a tire, but they limit us to 4 a year. According to the good-ol-boy network, it is legal (here) to cut up the tires in pieces and throw them in the dumpster. I can't confirm and haven't followed up.

My son works for a tire retailer and they charge 4.00 for disposal. The things is he tells me that they turn around and sell the tires to a place that grinds them up to put in rode tar and other recycling uses.

What's wrong with that picture????

Walmart. $1.50 / tire.

In West Virgina illustrated that they can be placed on your front lawn or next to your trailer home.
