Yeah, I know, I probably get annoying yapping about my kids. However, they're good kids, and I'm a hard-ass, probably more than I should be. Haha...I got raised by a hard-ass, and my wife and I have values we want our kids to maintain.

That being said, the 14yo started playing the violin 3 years ago. She is very talented and quickly picks up everything she tries. She understands the importance of practice and takes it seriously. She's on her violin a LOT, and has progressed quickly. We bought her a very nice violin last year, and she has continued to work hard. She has been the first chair in her school since about their 3rd or 4th concert. She surpassed the home schooled girl that is one of her best friends.

Last year, she auditioned for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony program and got a spot. Certain requirements have to be met to even audition, and once picked, it gets demanding. During their seasons, they practice every Saturday for 3 hours, and if 3 practices are missed for any reason, the kid gets the boot. They have everything from litthe beginners to Symphony ready teenagers. Apparently, one of the top 5 programs like it in the country. That's good for Albuquerque. Lol.

E's very first audition was pretty rough. It was the first time she had soloed in front of a group of judges and wasn't as prepared as she should have been, so.last year, she played in the back of the orchestra. This year she wasn't having any of that, so she rocked her audition and continued to play well. That got her pushed to First Chair in First Violins, which is cool. These kids are talented! That also meant, we could finally see her for the entire concert. Haha...So, I got what I think I a decent video of one of their pieces. During the concert, I could pick out her violin, but not with this video. Anyway, yap, yap, yap...I thought I would share:

Oh, one other thing. In just this group alone, there are 8 or 9 kids, playing violins, violas, cellos and bases, from my daughter's school orchestra class. Her teacher is a little nuts, but obviously very good at what she does. My daughter's AYS stand partner, the 2nd violin, is in the same school class, and the girl across from my daughter is her stand partner at school. These kids are bad ass!!

Outstanding!

Thanks for sharing - good news seems hard to come by these days, so it's great to hear that parenting is still turning out some talented kids.

Congratulations.

Congratulations. You and Frau Zilla should be very proud.

Band, Choir and Orchestra kids generally have proven to be Good Kids. Congratulations to both her and you, on her success.

Atta boy Dad, she's good. I'm sure she gets it from Carrie.

I like the hair color too!

Very talented kid. But, that violin is going to cut into her time on the range...... :)
Bwaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha...Violin cuts into Softball, which cuts into time on the range. I was softballed out at the beginning of last season, so I told her if she didn't play, we'd hit the range every other weekend, and she could ride her horses every other weekend. She answered by joining a club ball team and making me do softball all the way into November. They had a tournament the weekend before Thanksgiving. That'll teach me to try to make deals. Haha...

FWIW, I shot a Trap Match a couple months ago for a charity event. Because I shoot sporting clays, the guy who invited me decided I was their team ringer. His shooting was so bad that we weren't near the top, but I finished 5th overall. Not bad considering I was using a borrowed gun and had never shot Trap before. However, I had a blast and knew my girls and wife would like it. I also like that the trap club has loaner shotguns, so I didn't have to buy 5. Lol...Still, I bought me a nice beginner over under.

Took E the other day to see how she'd do. She was loaned a little Benelli 20ga pump and shot ok, for never having shot a shot gun before. However, on one target, she didn't move her body and swung the SG to the left and lit it off. The recoil went into her bicep and left a quality bruise. Haha...Self correcting mistake. She's dying to go back, and the 9 year old is jumping up and down to go. I'm creating monsters and am gonna die poor!!

Fixed it for you A J.

BTW: A parents pride is one of the best incentives a young person has.

I know because my now older Daughters told me so.

That was awesome, especially considering their age. Wow.

I'm a musician myself and proudly come from a long line of broke-ass musicians.

I wonder if they would let her mount a Go-Pro to the headstock of the violin?

Cuz, that would be an intense little video. LOL

God bless you and your family!

Very cool!

FWIW; sounds like you should have her negotiate your next performance review, probably get you a bigger raise......

HotRodZilla,

As proud as you are of your daughter -- and you should be -- congratulations also go to your and your wife. It's not easy to provide opportunities for your kids; it's even harder to keep them interested and motivated after things stop being easy.

First chair, first violin? That's Concertmaster territory, bro. Serious congratulations to E! Let me know when she's ready to audition around here.

Sincerely,

Uncle Hud,

first chair, first trumpet; high school and college
