I quit over 10 years ago. Cold turkey. I was a raging asshole for about three months. ( I will never tell where the bodies are buried)Like many others have stated I loved to smoke. My cessation has been so complete I have little memory of smoking and no cravings. Other than the 40 pounds I put on after I quit I am very happy.

You have to dig deep within yourself to kill the demon. Once it's gone life is great.

I'm not sure I understand  . I have a friend who smokes and said it was easy to quit. He said he has quit smoking hundreds of times  .

Just kidding, I used to be a closet smoker (damn hard to breath in there after awhile). But like many addictions, it does have different hooks into a person with some pretty serious side effects. BTW, in NC starting Jan. 2010, we are smoke free in all restaurants and BARS, can you believe it!!! :yahoo:

Yeah, same here in San Luis Obispo, CA. But I never really smoked cigarettes anyways! I do love an occasional cigar when walking though the pines in the woods though! B)

Same here. Smoked cigarettes as a teen and then in the Navy when it cost me $2 a carton (10 packs) at the ship's store. It was just something to do to while away the boredom. When I left the service I left the nasty habit behind as well, but have always enjoyed a good cheroot.

Not sure how much longer we will be able to do that here in the US though. All public places are going smoke free. You can't smoke in a car or in a room at home if you have kids. Even outdoors if there is anyone else around it's frowned upon. Won't be long before that is outlawed too. I understand the implications, it's just another freedom of choice being legislated away.

Commit Losenges will really help. Can get them at Wal Mart.

They have nicotine and will really take the edge off.

Suck on them for a few months while you get use to not smoking.

At some point will have to come down off the commit losenges but it is a good way to go.

I quit dipping after 25 years; major nicotine addiction. Commit losenges were the key for me.

Good on you. I have had two family members die of lung cancer--pretty sure from chain smoking--and I love to hear of folks quitting. Keep it up.
