Not Safe For Work
There was a recent thread about the pleasure of an impromptu and unplanned bike trip, camping where you find it and turning down any intriguing road that offers. Then Marcusaurelius posted one of his RR videos that just struck the right chord with me, riding thru Wyoming, the colors, the open road. It all came together. "Why not?" I asked. Receiving no answer, I decided I would.
I've had some very good rides this year; went to the Alps, for pete's sake, plus the RTE up into Oregon, saw lots of good peeps and all, but none of the solo wanderings I love to do. So far.
So I'm heading out--in the next two or three days. But where? What I'd like to see: good motorcycle roads, scenery, fall colors, you know, adventure!
What I'd like to avoid: Snow. Rain (as much as possible), extreme cold. Um, grizzly bears. Scratch that one, I have bear spray.
I know we're very lucky to have all the choices we do here, and many would love my predicament (and be retired, so time off is no problem either). But not to make you feel bad, I've seen so much of it already. Guess I should add "new places" to my list of what I'd like to see. I'm considering Colorado, but that's getting iffy in the mountains for weather, and there's Nevada to get through. I will be camping, so sub-freezing mornings would be a definite damper on my enjoyment. Even close to freezing is close enough. We woke up the last morning in LaPine and it was 36o--and hell, that's like 2 for some of you! I've been down the coast. And up the coast. Spent a lot of time in the Sierras, the Trinity Alps area, Yosemite and thereabouts. So I'm looking for ideas. All I really need is a direction to point the bike on the first morning.
