I spend a lot of time trolling through the jackets of music I buy to find other artists I don't know about.

I've been listening to Bela Fleck for about 12 years, now. Reading his liner notes, I've found all of the other musicians featured in the vid below over the years. It's such a treat when the best on the planet at their own instruments find each other and spend some time playing together. These guys did as the group "Strength in Numbers".

The standout below is Mark O'Connor. He's considered a virtuoso on the violin and the piano. Guitar is not where he shines brightest, but man, he rips it.

Mark O'Connor, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Edgar Meyer, and Sam Bush as "Strength in Numbers". The two tracks below can be found on a very fine album called "Telluride Sessions".

NICE! Forwarded to a friend who is into acoustical, and I will be interested to hear back from him as to if he has already heard of these guys. Probably has.

Good stuff!

I first became familiar with Bela Fleck when he was in David Grisman's group. Some good stuff there also.

Thanks for posting that up!

Very cool.

Check this guy out, I have 2 of his albums which are very good. Different style, but there are a lot of similarities. Many of the songs have a hint of classical music, but some are upbeat too.

andee mckee

Also check out Keller Williams, he is awesome too. He is a bit more.... funky/weird, but also big on accoustic.

Keller Williams

His shows are so cool because he uses a foot pedal to sample and loop a rif, then he picks up a different instrument and builds on it. I've seen him live and it's a fun concert.

OMG, what a line-up. I haven't even watched the videos and I'm ordering the album. Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, how much do we date ourselves by using the word "album?"

Thank you for that, Ari. All those guys floor me, but I had never heard of them playing under that name, and that "Blue Men of the Sahara" is especially mind boggling! Love the use of the bow on that bass!!!!! Yikes!

Michael Hedges (R.I.P.) is still one of my top favorites. His best of album always travels with me in my iPod.

I saw Bela Fleck when he toured with Little Feat years ago. And I always like Jerry Douglas' playing with Allison Krauss & Union Station. If you're into Little Feat acoustic-style check out the work that guitar players Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett do together. If you are lucky enough to have them near you when they tour together DON'T MISS IT. Their DVD "Sights & Sounds" is just like being at one of their shows, except there's no Mary-J smoke. :drag: WEBSITE

I was listening to one of Louisville 3 NPR stations and they had him on and played alot of his music. Very interesting. I especially liked the song about "De-liver the kidney". I think it was a song about transplants, but very interesting guitar work.

Even if you're buying because you know what these musicians have done on their own, you're going to be pleasantly amazed at this album.

I agree about the use of the term album.

I'm pretty much in the same camp. I've been listening to all of them for a few years, at least, some a lot longer. Last year, my brother surprised me with this album. It's incredible.

If you like what Edgar Meyer does with the bass, you'll be knocked over backwards by "Skip, Hop and Wobble", and album put together by Edgar Meyer, Jerry Douglas, and Russ Barenburg. What an amazingly original and superb effort!

PM if you'd like a longer sample.
