While the FJR is harnessed power and precise control, the old V-Max is raw muscle coupled with a bad temper.

After every so many miles gliding around the twisties on the FJR I need to ride the Max awhile to remember that bikes can also be evil B) .

Stef

PS: This V-Max will be 15 y.o. next year but still is gleaming in every detail :)

Mmmmh...Greg.

Not easy.

You hit a bump at 130 MPH (better if there's a 30 MPH speed limit :D ), catch air and collide with a low-flying chicken. Voila.

Gotta admit I had to try it a few times. B)

I LOVE my MAX!! :D

PMS on wheels. :p

I don't have to say a word. Just showin' up..................

Glad I kept it.

HI, Stef B)

Sorry, but from day one I've always thought the Vmax was hideous. Looked like a 12 year old was tasked with designing a motorcycle. I've always admired it's performance, but the looks turned me off the minute I saw it. Sorry Mad Max fans.

I rode a friends 05 V-Max and that thing is awesome in the straights,Sucks in the corners. I call it "The Flying Brick" LOL

That almost looks like a new design. They should do like they did with the Kali ZZR or whatever that was. Retro but new, so its not so much of a "Flying Brick".

I dig the looks for sure.

Alright! F'ing V-max! I love it. Thanks for sharing that. B) B) B) B) :agent: :agent: :agent: B) :agent: B) :agent: :agent: :agent: B) B)

Hi everyone (well, almost everyone. Radman, you ornery ole guy. I'll get you banned :D ).

True, the Max doesn't love corners but if you fix the wobbly front end (fork brace and the so-called "Furbur Fix") you have a different bike under your ass.

It's the "dark side" of motorbikes, that's why I love it :)

@ Craig in Denver

Hey Craig, good to see you here :p

Sorry about the belated response but I've been traveling like crazy these last few weeks. Need to make a buck to keep my 2 Yammys gassed up :D

Y'all have a great July 4 Weekend

I STILL don't understand the cruiser thing.

When Yamaha introduced the Royal Star, they took a Venture Royale engine--which was already a detuned V-Max engine, and detuned so it made less HP than a a Harley. From 115 for the 1200 V-Max, to about 95hp for the Venture, to 65 HP for the Royal Star...Does that make ANY sense?

Wouldn't it have been a MUCH better bike if they had transplanted in the V-Max engine, and used THAT as the basis for all their cruisers?

Yanktar,

I don't pretend to understand "the cruiser thing" but I kind of like that kind of bike, too (I had a BMW R1200C for a few years and loved it). My then new bride made me trade it in for a K-RS (go figure :agent: ).

Most cruisers are in that 60+ HP range (R1200C, the old Virago 1100, the Royal Star). You get a tremendous amount of pull from low revs and (in the BMW case) great handling also in the twisties, which you can negotiate in whatever gear you happended to be in... :D , and a top speed of about one ton.

BTW, Mr Max wants me to tell you he's got 140 HP, not 115 -- just for the record :haha:

I think it has something to do with torque curves and power band at lower RPM range which most cruiser needs. You will find most HD torque and power is at the low end much like a truck or tractor would need, and the sport bikes are more like a race car where the RPM must be very high to be in the correct bandwidth to utilize the horse power and torque.

Cruiser is heavy and they need the right amount of torque right from the get go more so then in the upper RPM range, so they do not need all that horse power to do the same thing for cruising at 65-85 as we would with the sport bikes. ;)

BTW, where do I get a rubber chicken for my FJR?
Ride the Waltz Across Texas Rally (this year it's the Texas Two Step Rally). One year they required everyone bring a rubber chicken. We then had to have it visible at all times. If someone in the rally spotted you without it visible it was a DQ.

You're not supposed to look at a V-Max. You're just supposed to ride it.

You'd change your tune after one ride on a modified version. ESPECIALLY one with a Kerker drag pipe on it.

BTDT...I'm on my third one. :p

The V-Max is a pallet. You create what you want it to be.

I guess I will try and explain the cruiser thing.

I love riding the Ducati, Amazing torque, raw power and it handles like it is on rails. One must pay close attention to the bike and it begs to be ridden hard.

This is a lot of fun. No sight seeing here.

I love riding the BMW. It's ugly, it makes weird noises, It handles very good on the pavement, it goes down the dirt roads with ease, It also begs to be ridden hard. When I don't know what the road will bring or even when I end up it is the BMW's turn. This is a lot of fun. Site seeing is provided but close attention must be paid when pushing it.

I will love riding the FJR. It has gobs of power, it handles OK for such a big bike, If I am planning on a pavement trip and just want to go,go,go. This is a lot of fun.

I love riding the Harley. It is the smoothest of all my bikes (FJR excluded maybe). It is big and you can load all sorts of stuff on it. It likes to take it easy down the road and I can actually relax and see some of the scenery instead of 110% concentration on that next curve at a ridicules speed. I can kick back, listen to the stereo, cruise all day with the air adjustable seat and the electronic cruise control. This is a lot of fun.

So it is different bikes for different days and different types of riding. They Are ALL Lost of Fun. :)

Ride Safe.

Marc
