I'm going to be riding back to Iowa from Boston and have decided to head north through Ontario. I'm trying to decide which of two routes between Ottawa and Sudbury to take. Is taking Hwy 17 north through Pembroke and North Bay best, or Hwy 60 west to Parry Sound and then north on Hwy 69 better? Time is not a problem - just looking for the better/ more scenic roads.

Thanks for the help

60 Across Algonquin, through Huntsville, across 141 to 69 North.

Were you planning on crossing back into the US at Sault Ste Marie? If not, it is HIGHLY recommended you go up and over Superior and cross at Duluth. The scenery is spectacular. Very reminiscent of the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia or even the Pacific Coast Highway.

Hi Logan:

I have not personally traveled either of these roads as I live south of the area, however I have flown extensively over the mentioned area. I really wouldn't matter which route you take as they will both be very nice and scenic routes. however, if it was me I think I would take the 60 then the 69. If you follow the 17 I am sure it would be nice but it is also more of a highway (not really) than through the 60 and 69. so more woods and secluded on 60/69 where 17 would follow the river and there are towns to see. Guess it just depends on what you want, either way enjoy the ride!!

I agree with Steve here... Hwy 17 between Sault ste Marie and Thunder Bay is great.

I've ridden both routes a lot. No contest. 60-69 route. The only part of the 17 Route that is scenic is around Mattawa and that is very short. The rest is trees, cops and transports.

I agree as well the 60-69 route offers more scenery and will not be as boring as some of the straight sections of 17.

Also agree on the transport and cop comments about 17...avoid it!

Thanks everybody for all the info! I definitely will take the southern route. Your right about the ride around Superior to Duluth -it's a great ride. I was planning on heading that way and stopping at Aerostich.

Thanks again to all of you.

Ride safe
