yikes, I've haven't seen bent forks like that since I endoed my first street bike when I was 18. It was quite a tumble in the ditch. In the few years afterward, I've low-sided a couple of times and lost it in gravel once but never had any impact that would jar the front end so hard.

Is it all a blur or can you recall how the bike tumbled? That almost looks like straight into a guard rail (or other immovable object) at at least 10-15 mph

It can't be said enough: good to hear we're only talking about a bruised bike

I guess I never considered that. I'm glad we have some gals on here, because sometimes us guys are pretty clueless about this sort of thing. She has been a little nicer to me this week, but to tell you the truth, it's a little spooky.

Not so spooky if you think about it. Odds are that she's pretty fond of you. Throw in a wake-up call where all of a sudden you might not be around any more, and that's got to start some serious thinking.

When my DH was talking about getting a bike, after many years without one, we reviewed the risk/benefit together. I suggested that he ride it Mon-Fri while I worried about him, then we reverse the roles on Sat and Sun. When he did eventually succumb to the lure of two wheels, he got a bike for me very soon afterwards.

Sorry to hear about your get-off but it sounds as though you took the better option, in heading for the soft landing instead of the harder one. Insurance can fix/replace a bike with relative ease but people dont mend so well.

Any idears what the Mystery Muck was? That's the kind of thing that keeps me up at night. That and gravel mid-blind-turn.

Based on your description, I've gotta agree with one of the other posters - the grassy route was better than the asphalt route.

That's probably what's gonna happen but my aging bones are gonna protest. I've become kind of spoiled by the FJR. I am hedging my bet though. In the event the verdict is total loss, I'm looking at another '05 this weekend.

There's nothing good about a crash, but at least what makes them a little less bad is the fact that once you realize it's going to happen, you don't have to dwell on it too long.

Yeah, it was bugs. That's my story and I'm stickin to it. I guess when you consider all of the things that are outside of your control, this recreation can be a little risky...but so can climbing a ladder to clean out your gutters or driving a cage to the store to pick up a loaf of bread. It comes down to quality vs quantity.
