Due to $$ limits, I have narrowed down my ATV search to one of the following 4x4 ATV's:

Zuk eiger 400

Honda FourTrax Rancher

Yammie Big Bear 400

Saki Prarie 360

Polaris Magnum 330

'Cat Utility 400

The MSRP's are just about a wash, btwn $5099-5599. On paper I like the Honda and the Yammie best for the price.

Anyone have any opinions (of course you do!) on these, or know of a ATV forum on par with the gang on this FJR forum I can snoop in?

Don't know of any forums, but I can offer this. My father in law is a motoring moron. He changes oil every couple years whether it needs it or not. He has been, for me, a good source of small engined devices, free of charge, because something broke and he's too cheap to pay anyone to fix them, so he grinds it into dust and gives it to me when it will no longer functions. This said, he has the Honda. And has had it for 3-4 years now. And has failed. Nuff said.

I love ATVing. I ride a 2005 Kawasaki Brute Force with 27" ITP 589...perfect setup for me. As far as mid sized quads go the Yamaha Kodiak is the hands down winner.

Pros

1) Decent power for its size engine.

2) CVT belt drive (always in the right gear)

3) IRS

4) Reliable

5) Decent price for what you get

As for ATV website.....I often go to the ATV Frontier ATV Frontier

Here is my two cents.

Road the Polaris 250cc for about 8 years. Front mower for a finished lawn [self powered 12 Hp front attached mower] for 2.5 ac @ twice a week and a [self powered 18 Hp brush hog for 5 ac @ twice a month] in OK heat for 7 months per year. During play time on the moto cross track it would out run my brother-in-laws Honda Rancher and jump with the Yama. However, the Yama would top out at about 60 mph and the Polaris would win the middle 1/8 of mile then fall far behind. After 8 years, sold it to my sister for tending her cattle and iriaggation and she still runs it as a daily rider today [~13 years later]. Two cycle power and CRT tranny with disk brakes are hard to wear out. Only a couple of new handle bars [crashes do happen] and all is well.

Other brand have made in-roads, but the Polaris is a good value.

Remember to try a few flat top jumps before making your choice. The fun part is not to be forgotten.

I have to go with Vulcan on this and favor the Yammie over the honda. I purchased a 500HO Polaris after much comparison. I almost went with the Yamaha Kodiak but at the time did not have IRS. I also ended up with a killer deal on the HO. The kodiak would be a great buy compared to the honda. check out the dirt wheels website. Clicky They are always doing "shoot-outs" Do a search and you are bound to find something.

I'm not riding my quad too much after the feejer got a room right next to it. Oh well, we shall see when the snow flies and the plow comes out.

:atv:

good luck with that.

You can't go wrong with a yamaha or a honda.I own a Grizzly 660.I love it.I have itp aluminum rims and holeshot atr's on mine, and numerous other go fast goodies.I raced a number of years ago.I had a Yamaha Banshee set up for motocross, and a Honda 440ex built for cross country woods racing. Both bikes were totally reliable and they had some hard use put on them....J
