Sure is good to see that guy with the white beard & power shot hanging around his neck out & about on one of them there motorcycles ... hope he slowed ya down taking pictures. Oh and thanks for your pictures :fan_1:

It was a very cool ride, and a tremendous turnout of riders in memory of a friend. Sam's pictures caught a lot of the highlights--good job. Actually his son took them, twisted around on the back seat somehow. Glad you managed to stay on there. I was thinking of all you easterners and northerners who've already posted how your bikes are all winterized and put away for the season, and feeling bad for you. So I'll try to enjoy all my winter riding as much as possible in your honor.

Like I said, a great turnout. I counted at least 37 riders on somewhat fewer bikes, and some from pretty darn far off, too. Like Khuanajawdge, Kaitsdad, and Tyler from So. Cal., a bunch from the Bay Area, and lots of locals and semi-locals. (Sorry--I'm sure I missed some others who came from a long way off.) We're lucky to be in such a stronghold here. Glad everybody could make it. The riding was terrific, the roads were great, the weather was overcast and cool but perfect for the ride. Still some fall colors, an excellent lunch. What a treat. A few contributions in the picture department:

Pre-ride planning. We had so many, we took off in four separate groups, all meeting pretty much together at the final destination.

We almost overwhelmed the barbecue joint, but they handled us.

Finally, the Three Stooges. I mean three Sacramento Mikes. All Old, and all Mad as hell.

Oh, and wheres the Snow?? :blum:

:jester:
Snow? Is it that cold white stuff? We have special areas designed to collect it in the Winter for distribution during the Summer, we call them the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This system works particularly well for we motorcycle enthusiasts, allowing is to ride nearly year-round. :yahoo:

I've heard there are those who reside in other sections of this country that allow that stuff to lay about all over their state. Seems strange to us, but we'll do our best to share our Winter riding with you who haven't devised the same storage concept.

What a great turnout, youse guys er the bestest!

First, thanks to those who willingly led the smaller groups: exskibum (Rich), uberkuls (Brad & Kristi) and Bluestreeks (Steve & Cindi).

It was fun seeing the other groups as we past (or happened to stop at the "rest" stop in Georgetown). It was very cool to have 4 different groups riding the same roads in different order, and I think better than trying to marshal that many bikes in one group.

Riding a more relaxed pace on the damp, pine needle strewn roads was an excellent opportunity to take in the scenery and enjoy the complete ambience of the day and the occasion.

Thanks to O'Connor's. They're really not "set-up" to handle a large group like this but with advance notification they had the meet cooked and let us put tables together, etc., and I think the service was fast. Pretty good for a small diner taking care of such a large group. Oh yeah, my pulled pork sandwich was great! :clapping:

I'm sorry that we all didn't get a chance to share Andrew stories. I don't think the venue was conducive to that and with other customers eating there it was prudent to not flow in that direction. Personally, I heard 3 or 4 stories shared by others while engaged in conversation....to me, that was great! It keeps him vibrant in my memory and I know it is the same with others.

Andrew remains part of my motorcycling "kit". As exskibum said, I don't pass an old barn on a remote road...or a great set of curves...or a rock outcropping...coastline...ad infinitum...that I don't think of Andrew and what he might be saying on the radio or sharing at lunch or dinner. That's the "why" of this ride.

Lastly, thanks to those who attended and made another ride "special". Fun roads and friends, old and new, it doesn't get much better than that. You all help me enjoy the same roads I shared with our departed friend and the memory of this will blend with the past times. It's a good healing thing! I'm glad to know you all.

P.S. kaitsdad (Hal) and Dcarver (Don) left here about 15 minutes ago, headed toward Monterey to catch Hwy 1 and head South.

It was interesting to ride up to Starbucks in Elk Grove. I was expecting Old Michael, Sarah (RoxxieRay) and weekend rider...there were a bunch of bikes!

Sacramento Mike, Flying Junior (Walt) and Bokerfork (Mark) were there, and LastChance drove 3 blocks in his car (his bike was in the shop).

Then we rode off for our early morning adventure. We got to see some deer, isn't that right, Walt? We all got to see Walt practice "hard braking" as two of the forest rats ran behind me, in front him! The uberkuls were waiting for us in Volcano and joined us for the second half of our early morning fun-ride to meet those who slept in (or rode a great distance to meet us) and needed their "wake-up beverage" in El Dorado Hills.

Great ride!

Here are a few shots that I took riding up to the state capitol near Orangevale, CA. Yes, I took CA. hwy.160 long the Sacramento River. :D

My ride (Ryde?) along the river was gorgeous. <_<

I couldn’t believe how still the wind was, It usually blows a gale through here when I manage to ride the levy. In fact there was NO wind. Look at the far bank, it has sky below it and above it.

I guess I’ll cross this bridge when I come to it?

Here is why we/I rode, to remember Andrew with his friends new and old. (photo credit = Rick Williams [Fatnakedguy])

I guess I will remember Andrew Knight "most" for his ability to show interest in our individual lives and our diverse interests. "He" was the one who explained to me how to post pictures to this forum a couple of year's ago.

Good to see the other pictures of all-o’y’all and ride with ya's on some of Andrew's favorite roads. Until next time, happy trails!

SacMike quote

""Sam's pictures caught a lot of the highlights--good job. Actually his son took them, twisted around on the back seat somehow.""

Where do I get to see these pics ?

GREAT pics all of you by the way :clapping: DEB'S --- she forgot the camera

What a great get together and ride. I can't think of a better way to spend a day then to spend it with such a great group of friends.

Kudos to the ride leaders and photogs for making it such a great experience! :clapping:

Thanks again to Mad Mike for doing a great job organizing this ride. Thanks too to the supplemental group leaders. I was a good ride.

Thanks to madmike for organizing a great ride. Especially appreciated was the fact that everyone obeyed the "no crashing" rule. Lots of really good riders on this ride, and anytime I get to look in my mirrors and see Jeff on that silver '03 of his (when I'm not following him), as we rip uphill on some twisties as excellent as some of those on this loop, well . . . all you can do is grin, because everyone must be having as much fun as I am.

What a great small group we had. No crashing, no getting lost (well except for the lead rider falling asleep on Green Valley and taking us back to 50 instead of doing ALL of Green Valley -- doh!!**), no unscheduled ice cream stops, almost perfectly spaced every time I had a chance to look in my mirrors and count. And we weren't exactly dawdling. :D

Santa Maria Grill has become one of my favorite eating spots -- always friendly, and they KNOW how to prepare tasty BBQ'd flesh. Most of all, this has to be THE best group to ride with. Great to see some faces I haven't seen in a while, and even better to meet others I've only known by their handles. It was a fitting tribute to a guy who was a joy to ride with.

**Not the first time I've done the same thing, and it's only when I see the sign for Ponderosa Road and Hwy 50 that suddenly a light comes on: "oh shit, I did it AGAIN!!" :p

+1 Great grouping and pre-ride instructions (even though some people were goofing off... ;) ). I thoroughly enjoyed the route, the event, the lunch, and especially meeting some great "new" friends. I'll post a few pics tomorrow. Thanks to all for being such a warm and welcoming bunch... even though my bike wasn't a blue FJR.

Great pictures, everyone. And what a wonderful bunch of people!

Amazing how such a great ride just happened to come together so easily. It's MM2's great leadership. He even led us through a herd of deer so we could practice our braking and dodging skills.

Y'know, when I came around the curve and over the rise I was looking at the yard of that house and thinking, "Boy...those statue look real."

Then 2 of them began to run parallel and just behind my bike! I watched them execute a veer to their left between you and I.......

Good job, Walt! Way to "squeeze" the brakes and stay in control. ;)

As always always MM2 puts on another great ride and always comes through with a great turn out. Thanks MM2

And I owe thanks to Uberkill for picking up my sun glasses that I dropped on the road in Volcano thanks "U" :bike:

Thanks everyone for a great ride and a great day. I don't care what anyone says about you, the FJR forum is a great bunch of people!! ;)

First and foremost, Andrew is a great friend of mine. Photo credit = Rick Williams, Fatnakedguy.

Almost a year later, Andrew is still very close, and I hear his voice, although I admit the voice is fainter as time flies on, which is why I rode, attended, and supported Andrew and friends for his first memorial ride.

I left at the crack-o-dawn to make the StarBucks meet point. Andrew, the last time I saw him, at my house, told me about some great roads he took to arrive at the Hondarosa. Out of the way, and took more time, but he was so happy to have experienced them that I, on this ride, took the long way too.

Sunrise at Avenal prison. Andrew mentioned several times to me that 'If by the grace of God goes I'. As I passed the prison, and cars of guards on their way to work, I think of all my past and uncaught trespasses and think, 'There but by the grace….'….

It was cold. I'm wearing new gear, CyclePort Air Mesh, without liners (have to draw the $$ line somewhere), it's 35F, I've been in it for an hour, and I'm cold. Just ride Don, just ride. The sun will be here soon.. and then, on Xm radio, 'Here Comes the Sun' by the Beatles. Puurrffeecct, and I'm happy, but still cold, but now with hope for the future. Do you read any parallels into this yet? I hope so.

I passed an entire orchard of uprooted Almond trees. I attempted to cross the 2-lane to take an epic foto, but I failed miserably because 1) the freaking dirt was waaaay soft, and 2) evidently, I'm no Andrew when it comes to taking pix. Anyway, here is my attempt:

2-Uprooted.jpg

Andrew liked Barns. I decided to take a picture of (TPO) every barn I saw:

3-Barn1.jpg

I arrived in time for MadMikes rider meeting. If you've never meet Mike, you should. Mike rocks; he is the real deal. Sincere, funny, a realist, and pretty much he's to the point where anything you can throw his way is not his first rodeo. If you don't understand this last comment, wait about 20 years and you will.

On a different note.. every time I saw this lady, she was on the phone…

And I'm sorry, who are you?

OldMichael, it so SOO very good to see you healthy and riding again. You have seen some terrible times, yet here you are, alive and with us, and paying tribute. I'm so happy to see you again.

The LEO's were everywhere:

Barns. Did I mention Andrew liked barns?

12-Barn2.jpg

Just askin… Does anyone besides me see something wrong with this sign?

13-SayAgain.jpg

Did I mention the barn theme? I'm really starting to realize I'm no Andrew, or Old Michael, or FatNakedGuy. I'm simply a point-and-shoot dork with no real skilz. Yet here I am, and so are you, so here it is:

14-Barn3.jpg

Along the ride:

This is Sutter Creek? These were all virgin roads to me, I really have no idea where this is, but the GPS tracked the route, and I will be back to spend some quality time..

NightShine and Son, (apologies, I 'm old and don't remember your name, young man, but do know you impressed me with your demeanor and attitude.)

18-NightShineAndSon.jpg

Other folks had plenty of lunch pix, and, frankly, at lunch, I was having issues. I couldn't figure out how to get the f#$#k out of my Cycleport pants, got the zipper all buggerd up, was sweating like your old girl/boy friend because I still was wearing ALL the GEAR ALL the TIME… sigh.

Folks leaving lunch:

Would you believe it, the cell phone queen is at it again! (hey, this is all in fun, please don't send your hubby after me!)

I'm not a NorCal regular, and I apologize, I don't recall who you are?

21-WhoAreYou.jpg

OldMichael and SacramentoMike. Two great guyz who really know how to crash! (Hey, take a joke, will yah?)
