I'm not very savvy with where to buy automotive parts online. In need of a CV axle for my car & want to order from a reputable, reliable & reasonable place. What say you mechanic types?

What kind of car and how old is it?

I normally buy locally from Advanced, Auto Zone, or NAPA.

For a newer vehicle I may go to the dealer, but they are normally very expensive.

If it is for my 20 year old truck or Suburban I go to Rock Auto online.

I've used partstrain.com mostly with good results, twice with not good (i.e. still out hundreds of $$ after they sold me moog suspension parts that didn't fit).

+1 for rockauto.

However, an axle is going to have a core charge. I've gotten one from rockauto, but i don't remember if the cost to ship the core was on me or not. For this, I'd recommend a local such as AutoZone.

I just looked @ O'reilley... They seemed very reasonable. I'll likely use them... since I didn't know there was a core charge & just noticed that when shopping online this morning. Thank you everyone. I certainly appreciate it.

I've used autoanything.com with good results. My experiences with Advance Auto, Autozone, or Pep Boys have too often left me frustrated with incorrect fitment or outright faulty parts so I tend to avoid them now. NAPA or in my area Fishers Auto have proven better.

I worked at a Napa store for 23 years

(8yrs full time 15yrs weekends... someone bought out the owner I worked for, we had differing ideas(read as: major pay cut..not worth waking early on Sat AM), so now i have weekends free)

I just re-did the brakes on my sequoia ... all the parts aside from the formed steel lines, were purchased from Amazon.com... saved a boat load of $$

Rotors (F+R), pads, hardware, bleeder repair, rubber brake hoses, emergency brake shoes and hardware.. i probably saved $300 from what my cost as an employee would have been. Looked at Autozone, RockAuto, Carquest, NapaOnline, etc.. nobody was even close...

Amazon has a pretty decent "part fit checker" but always a good idea, once you pick your part, to go to the manufacturer site, and look at thier catalog to make sure they claim it will fit.

Maybe list the Year, Make, Model, engine size, type of trans, and side of the car(referenced as L or R from sitting in the driver seat)... we can make a game of who found it for the cheapest :)
