I currently have 52K on my bike. Picked it up with 33K on the clock last year. Many years ago when I was 18 I got bored over the winter so I tore my 650 special apart, rebuilt the engine, shaved 30 thousands off the head, ported and polished the head, farkled it out and put a custom paint job on it. Many years later I still find myself tearing into engines..... Not to bad for a health care professional, lol.

If you install a manual chain adjuster should you discuss it with a prospective new owner before you sell your FJR?

I've considered installing one on my '04 but of course I'd be monitoring it and adjusting as necessary.

It appears to be a simple, lower cost solution.

I believe it would be beneficial for the automatic adjuster if one periodically turned its threaded bolt with a screwdriver. Give it a little workout, reduce its rotational friction. The thing is just sitting there barely ever moving. It's being vibrated, continually assaulted with a tiny hammer, and yet it's expected to turn smoothly with minimal friction when required.

IIRC, RadioHowie installed an APE, and checked later and it did not require adjustment....... I interpret as cam chain does not stretch/very little, which makes sense to me. Too snug would cause wear on the (plastic) chain followers.
