Awhile back I posted about our dog, Oscar, who had gotten paralized in his hind end after jumping off the bed and injuring his back and I said I'd send a pic or two when and if we got him a set of wheels. He seems to get around pretty good outside but tends to bump into things in the house. Anyway he's doing better and is starting to get some limited use from one rear leg.

The wheelie bar in back should prevent him from harm if both legs eventually get on the torque hump in the future. Good luck!

You guys are to be commended for taking such good care of him and being patient with his disablity. Too many people treat pets as disposable when something like that happens and just put them down. I know it is a lot of commitment to care for him like that but it really shows that you care. He is a lucky dog.

So what farkles are you planning for Oscar?

Might I suggest a set of these for evening doggie neighborhood wanderings. B)

Dogs like safety bling too you know. :D

Speciall if he starts using that wheelie bar :D

Very Important !!!

Hey - tell Oscar he's cool - and he's lucky he picked you for his owner.

Good deal! The wife and I had a poodle that suffered a degenerative condition that left him paralyzed in his rear legs. He never complained, never felt sorry for himself. He still thought he was the man. We carried him for awhile - outside to do his business, etc. We also had an outside cat that enjoyed tormenting him, staying just out of range, with a little "nah, nah, nah, nah-nah" attitude. Then, I built him a set of rear wheels.

Steel tubing- $15

Wheels- $18

Material- $6

The look on the cats face when "Binky" and his new wheels caught the cat-

PRICELESS

Thanks to everyone for the support. It's been a very tough 2 1/2 months for us but it's getting better all the time. The pics you all posted are great! I'll have to show my wife soon. The helmet might be a good idea! LOL. I'll have to give the farkling some thought, but it will probably have to happen. :D

P.S. !!!!! DO NOT EVER LET YOUR DOXIE JUMP ON OR OFF ANYTHING!!!!

(thanks again)

Hey - jumpin off a bed for a doxie is like us jumpin off a two story bulding, well OK a one story building. Good luck on his rehabilitation!

This is what makes dogs really cool........if they get hurt, you can put them in a walker and they're happy........

I can't imagine what my cats would do if I tried to put them in something like this.......it would be really ugly....

Good on you for taking care of your pup!

I am tring to think of something to say. It's just incredible when you see someone who gives back to their pet as much as their pet gives to them, to many people treat them as toys and dump them when they are broken. I could go on & on this is my PET rant, but this is not tthe place, just thanks for being some of the good people, and best wishes to Oscar.

Good job! ;) We have a diabetic cat, just took him to the vet due to alarming weight gain. Turns out he is just a, and should be a, big cat, the undiagnosed diabetes had been keeping him smaller. The vet said he is the healthiest diabetic cat she has ever had in her care, and that we (read my wife) were to be praised. If you are going to have critters, they should get the best you have to give, otherwise give them to someone who can provide the best. My heart aches for the sad case, poorly cared for critters I see sometimes, but I know I can't save them all, so I do the best I can for those close to me.

Edit-right on airboss.

You can tell a lot about a man by the way he speaks to the women in his life and how he cares for the critters that depend on him. Just my opinion, of course. But I think it is very revealing of character.

Originally I didn't want a dog and my wife pestered me for a couple of years and then when our daughter left home and got married my wife showed up one day with a puppy (Oscar)... Well what could I say? So I had to put up with it. Long story short, Oscar and I took to each other right away and I coudn't believe how much personality dogs have! Our cat, like most others EXPECT to be taken care of but dogs seem to try and make you feel better when you're down. So, a few weeks ago I come home from work and Oscar can't move. He just laid there barely able to breathe it seemed. So we thought his spine was degenerating and he was slowly dying. We laid on the floor with him for 4 hours not wanting to take him to the vet because it terrifies him so much. So we tried to find a vet to come to our house and put him down peacefully... what a downer I'll tell you. But no one was available so we decided to take him back to the vet. Well when the doc came in with the syringe, Oscar jumped up and chomped on my thumb (all's forgiven) and groweled and barked at her. My wife and I just looked at each other in shock because we figured he was near to gone. Turns out he pinched a nerve or something and was in pain but we think he was milking the sympathy card a little too. So he goes back home with us and got shot up with demerol every 10 hors or so for 5 days (he was one strung out pup!) He's now up and around and doing great.

Sorry for such a long post but I think he's worth it.

Also everyone of you get all the thanks in the world for caring. We really do appreciate it. My sympathys to any one out there that has lost a friend or had to have one put down. It has to be a major bummer to say the least.

It's amazing the effect these critters can have on us.

You all made my day. Thanks again. Oscar says woof.

He really is one happy pup. As of today the yearly Pacific NW monsoon has let up and we were able to get him out in the grass and let him get around without his cart and he seems to be getting some feeling and strength back in one of his hind legs and is able to hobble a few steps before he trips himself. And he has feeling in his tail which wan't there a few months ago. We're having him scoot around in the house some to help build up his strength after being pretty much immobile for over two months. He's off all the drugs and is "clean" again, but he did seem to be soothed by some "Pink Floyd"... I am too for that matter. He's a tough little mutt.

One other thing... I actually got to go riding today!!!
