I'm not a believer in snake oil, so next coolant change just use a good antifreeze.
********! I seen you adding Leopard piss to your coolant when you were here.. Bill an geek pointed it out.

Yep, I saw it alright, but it was UselessPickle's bike. Ya know how UP is - always looking for an 'edge'...

And to the OP - hell, just put a piece of duct tape over your temp guage and I guarantee ya that you won't worry about engine temps again.

Damn I'm good...

I have never changed coolant in my FJR04. Got 33400 mi on it. I have added coolant to it. I probably should change it. I will look at it soon and if it is not pretty green color but looks dirty then I will change it. Haven't had any coolant issues so far.

On my 08 I have noticed that it ran one bar higher this summer. I initially was not overly concerned because it was a very hot summer with temps in the 100's . But now that it is cooler the bike is slow to warm up. I would let it warm up to 2 or 3 bars in the garage then go. Once on the road the temp indicator bars would go down to one bar or if the ambient temp is in the 30's it would show no temp  . In traffic while sitting the temp indicator would climb to 6 or 7 bars and slowly return to 4 bars. I ordred a new thermostat and hope that this will fix it ( at least that is what the service manual recomends).

I would think 4 bars on a GenII is normal, maybe 5 or so in real hot ambient, or up to 7 in stop and go. But if it's been warmed up and ridden for a bit in the 30's it still should come up to three. I agree, something is a bit fishy with the thermostat, maybe not closing fully when cold.

No harm in the bike running a bit hot at 6 or 7, it is actually quite efficient then.... as long as the fans come on when they should and it don't climb higher, it's all good. But, I would change the coolant every 2-3 years (no need to do the flush IMHO), to keep the lube and anti-corrosion additives fresh. My 07 now has 40,000 kms on it, and will get a coolant change this off-season.
