I bought a nice new shiny Gen II exhaust to replce my old one. Mine (Gen I) has a two wire oxygen sensor connection but the new one has a four wire plug;

1) Why, what's the difference

2) Can I simply use my existing two wire sensor in the new header?

4 wire sensor, the extra 2 wires are the heater.

Why? Brings it on-line faster, don't have to wait for the exhaust to heat the sensor to operating temp.

Just screw your old 2-wire in the bung and you are good to go (you don't have a heater circuit to drive the heater on a 4 wire)

Thanks Folks, any need to spray the existing sensor with brake cleaner or anything while it is apart?

Be careful what you "spray" an O2 sensor with....MANY common workshop chemicals can "kill" an O2 sensor. Don't know if brake cleaner is one of them.

There is no good reason to do it, and plenty of them not to. You can put a trace of Never Seize on the threads if you want, but that's it.

+1 - even if it looks sooty, there is no need to do anything to the O2 sensor except screw it in and hook it back up (or not if you are running a PCIII).
