The dealer used a solvent to clean up some gasket sealer from the "ticker" fix long, long ago and it left a couple inch wide stripe down that side. Bubbled first, then just pealed off after a day or two. My bike lives outside, and I'm clearly not heavily into the cosmetics, so It didn't bother me much. Did get some free work done for it, though.

So the paint peels like aluminum foil, no corrosion underneath just clean metal. Do I have to paint it or can I just clear coat it., and whats underneath the right side case with the fins on it?

Did you spill anything on it such as brake fluid??

Paint, clearcoat or nothing. Depends on how much it shows and if you are concerned with appearance. If you are painting, I think you would have to strip it to look really good. If putting anything on it, make sure it is really well cleaned first.

Didn't spill anything. I found it after my second ride( just got it) and was cleaning it. Nobody seems to clean their bikes. Anyway, that's when I found it. It seems to peel more now that I started it. Not concerned about looks so much as much as now do I just keep peeling or can I stop it.

Could have been done anytime in the last 15 years. All I can suggest is to clean it up well and see. If it continues to peel, you will have to strip it completely to recoat properly.
