Hey does anyone know if the the saddle bag lids come apart. I have taken the lids off from the main storage part but can't seem to figure out if the reflector is bolted on or glued on. I did a search and found one where the black yamaha piece was knocked off and it appears to be glue that secures it,(don't know why but they did'nt clean the glue off and painted over it) anyways I'm trying to make it a easier for my painter and a cleaner job rather than taping it off. Any help would be great.

From what i understand they are stick on. A heat gun or hair dryer and a little twisting and they will come off. There are some post here somewhere on how to get them off.

Good luck. :) OH YEH, what color? Black is the fastest. :D

The patented method for removing them is heavy duty dental floss and soapy water. Grab about 2 ft of floss and wet the area down good. Start sawing into the double sided tape under the reflector with the floss near the thick corner and don't stop. A helper can add more water occasionally. Once you're in about 1/2 of an inch - you are done. Now, with a firm grasp, start pulling/peeling the reflector off - it will come. I don't recommend the heat gun.

Oh cool, thanks for the tip....now for the part I forgot to ask.....what do you recommend for putting them back on?

Also someone ask about what color? I have no idea. I was going to go stock but I can pick anything really. I also thought about a burnt orange/copper color....Anyone have suggestions?

I hear RED is the most wanted color. ;)

Why would you want to put them back on? Looks much cleaner without.

You' will destruct the adhesive when you pull them off. If you do want to re-install them, the rubber blocks come w/ the adhesive already affixed & a clear peal-off covering if you buy new ones. If you dont want to buy new blocks, check your local body shops to see if you can procure a small amount of the adhesive [it's the same product they use for some of the newer stick-on side trim], it's black rubber, about 1/16" thick, adhesive on both sides, and they get it in rolls of varying widths. From personal experience, it's better mooching [or even buying] a small amount from a bodyshop than forking over what an automotive paint supply house wants for a whole roll.

And while your pulling off that ugly reflector, may as well pull that ugly black rubber strip out too. Fill with some bondo, prime, then paint so the bag is totally smoother. Looks way better IMO.

Until some **** in a parking lot dings your bag with his door EXCACTLY where the rubber strip used to be.

1 get is good and warm (sitting it out in the summer sun works).

2 get a pair of adjustable jaw plyers

3 grab and gently twist until the reflector comes off.

I would die for that 1970 Boss :wow: How about some pics.

I do have a 1965 Mustang Convertalbe to. Had it since I was 17 years old. Needs a lot of work now and a lot of money. Someday I will get back to it.
