Okay I never needed a Pay Pal account so never opened one. I then heard horror stories about accounts emptied and cards maxed out by Pay Pal and the people spending months trying to sort it out.

Well I opened an account because I am getting something that I can only use Pay Pal for.

So.............

I need to pay and order via PayPal instant transfer the person is not accepting credit card payment. Does this mean I need to link one of my bank accounts to Pay Pal or can I link a credit card to Pay Pal and they will do an instant transfer?

Thanks in advance.

oh,

How do I do an instant transfer?

I'm not sure about that, but I will never use paypal again.

Long story short, they tried to pull the money from the wrong account, it bounced, and I mailed them a check. 3 days after they cashed my check, they told the seller to call the police because his account had not been credited yet. Not a responsible company in the slightest.

Well I think yours was ONE of the stories I heard! But in this deal I need to use Pay Pal. :eh: :(

I've been using Paypal for many years.. Not 1 problem... but maybe I'm the exception :D

You can link a credit card to paypal - linking your bank account could be bad unless you have an account set up just for paypal that you can monitor. A plus for linking credit cards only is that most (all?) credit cards will give you some help dealing with problems or fraud.

I create a paypal account only when I need it, link a credit card that I only use for web stuff to it and buy what I want. Once I have confirmed that the seller has received their money, I cancel the account.

Last time I created a PayPal account I had to link 2 credit cards to it before I was allowed to pay anyone, but I don't remember that happening the first time I had an account. It may be because I used up my "limit", or that they knew I had cancelled once before.

I personally have not had any problems with them, but I too have heard the stories....moral is, be careful with the account, use credit cards that you can monitor activity on closely, and cancel right away when you are done. I would use it again, but YMMV.

So can I do an "instant transfer" using a credit card on Pay Pal?
Sorry, I guess I never answered your question! Yes, you can do that. You have to have the seller's email address they used when signing up for their account. Experienced sellers will even send you an email request for payment.

Go to the "Send Money" tab and all the instructions are there. If you link more than one credit card or bank account to it, BE SURE the proper card is selected before submitting the request. The request will sometimes default to the primary card or account even if you've selected a secondary card or account, especially after using the "back" button.

Rogue, I agree with crew.

Do open a bank account that you ONLY use with Paypal.

Do open a credit card that you ONLY use with Paypal.

I have been using Paypal with zero problems. You can send money from paypal through a credit card to an email address.

www.paypalsucks.com for reference too.

You have to ask yourself....why would the seller care how you funded his money? Maybe it is to make absolutely sure that you have no recourse.

I haven't had any bad experiences with PayPal, but their privacy policy is positively Orewellian. I think they'll give info. to police agencies if they fax in a request on department letterhead. I know, I know....if I'm not guilty, don't worry. ....I still worry though.

Aside from that, you do have to set up a bank checking account and I think it's also best to set up a credit card. Everytime you make a purchase they push, push, and push more to go from the bank account, BUT there is an option to have it taken off the credit card.

I figure having a credit card company between you an PayPal is advantageous.

I would agree that a checking account dedicated to PayPal makes sense, but would think a dedicated card is a bit much.

To accept credit cards, a paypal account has to be bumped up to a commercial account. When that happens, PayPal skims a percentage of each transaction off the top (like cc companies do). The problem is if you sell things occasionally and accept paypal, then you get dinged for everything you use the account for.

People who have the basic kind of account can't accept credit cards as their source of payment through paypal.

Bounce is correct.

And this cost would have been passed on to us.

There are several reasons why we are enjoying the incredible prices on these HID kits.

Okay, I guess I'll link the Pay Pal to one of my checking accounts instead of a credit card.

Thanks for the data.

I sent the HID supplier an e-mail to see if there are any issues with Canadian orders (there aren't other than a small courier upcharge).

In his e-mail response to me he also gave me an alternate e-mail address to use if my Paypal is linked to my cc - which it is. The prices are only a few bucks higher to cover the cc fees. At least this is an alternative if you're not keen on linking Paypal to your bank account (like me). ;)

You're right.

I had bumped my account to "premier" access some years ago and forgot it was different than the basic account.

Great,

I'll E-Mail him. I feel better using a cc.

Thanks.

The fees for accepting c/c payments are outweighed by the convienence to me. It costs a bit more to use the premier service, but the security is excellent and offers a clear paper/electronic trail in the event of fraud, which Paypal takes very seriously.

I have never had a problem, likely because I take my own account security to heart and use complex passwords, rotate them, I know how to spot spoof and fishing emails and I am generally sceptical about online stuff. So I end up checking out my trading partners closely.

Heck, I bought two motorcycles on eBay (91 ST1100, 03 FJR) and paid at least partially thru Paypal, with perfect results. But it ain't for everybody...
