Next week, it will be six months since my get-off. I'm walking unaided almost all of the time now, and able to play around with riding a dirt bike. It was definitely time to get back onto asphalt.

My BMW F700GS was ordered in December and just came in, late Saturday. I had to wait all this time to get the low frame, in the color I wanted, with the stability control feature. Collecting the bike was a mini-adventure since I didn't get the call until just minutes before the store closed. They agreed to stay open until I got the bike. I wore an old pair of Andy's boots since mine were trashed and I haven't found quite the right new pair yet. I didn't even think about super thin soled boots, plus a Roadcrafter that doesn't bend yet. My tentative reach on the ground was a good half inch less than expected!

It was Saturday night, busy traffic around Disneyland AND it was dark. I have bad vibes about riding in the dark, that need to be worked out. Nevertheless, I got home safely, ready for a fun ride on Sunday.

With a different pair of boots on, and in daylight, it was a much more pleasant experience riding the new bike. The throttle is infinitely more responsive than the one on the 650 was. There's an extra gear, which I kept forgetting to use. That perhaps wasn't a bad thing though since it's only needed at speeds greater than what one really should be doing.

The riding position feels good, and even better after Andy adjusted the shifter for me. He'd heard a couple of missed shifts on the way home from the store. The stock seat is very..... stock like and felt even more so after a couple of hundred miles.

I love the way the bike handles turns. It's very light and easy to lean. The weight is all down low since the gas filler cap is behind the seat rather than a traditional tank set up.

Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on this bike. It's a happy medium between the G650GS which wasn't quite enough bike for me and the FJR which I sadly admit was too tall and heavy for me.

Ye Ha......looking forward to riding it myself...

Welcome back, looking good on a very attractive bike! Have to admit I always lusted after a GS1200A but initial cost and maintenance keeps me far enough from the dealer to avoid temptation... ;)

Happy trails and keep 'er rubber side down!

Great to hear. I'm not a big guy (no jokes please) and I have always liked smaller bikes. My change from the FJR to the Bonneville was more of an enviromrnt issue than an ergonomic one, but I'm really liking again having a bike I can put both feet down on and that I can seemingly toss around in turns with abandon.

That GS looks like a good match for you. Am sure the two of you will be very happy together.. :)

With the low frame, I have exactly the same reach as I had on the FJR, which is the points of both toes down at the same time. The difference is in the weight and the distribution of it. It's no big deal to lean the bike over a little to get a whole toe down, or even a flat foot. This bike happily comes back up again. If I leaned the FJR over that far, it would go down and stay down. This bike seems like the biggest of the little bikes, that will fit and has great prospects for doing all kind of fun things.

Hoping to bring some cool photos back from the desert next weekend. The bike is far too clean for an adventure bike.

Huge Kudos to you Penquin for getting back on the road again as soon as you could. And that bit about riding 'er for the first in the DARK, if that were me, it woulda sent shivers up my spine.

BTW...nice looking scoot.

Thanks. I was very uneasy about it, especially since my crash was due to not seeing a curb between the on ramp and the unlit freeway, in the dark. But..... this was late Saturday night. The bike shop is closed Sun and Mon. Andy doesn't get off work until after the store closes on weekdays, and he was needed for both the ride there and signing the papers. I'm going to be at work this weekend then away next weekend so you can see, I was highly motivated to bring the bike home Saturday, dark or not.

I still wanna ride it.....

And you shall, dear brother-in-law. In Goleta, if not before then.

OH BOY! Looking good Jill. I wanna ride it too, perhaps in Goleta? Don't be too hard on it out in the desert.

I hear you about riding in the dark, I still have to ride in deer country.

Jill,

Nice picture. I remember that bike filled garage well. Happy you are riding again. So just remind us again of what you have in the stable again? How about Andy? I have lost track over the 20 or so bikes you guys have owned:)
