Me: 6'3" 285lbsDriving style..aggressive street or SPORT-tour.
I carry much luggage sometimes..all 3 bags full plus tankbag.
Penske sent a 950lb hyperpro spring on their 8981 with remote reservoir and double adjusters.
I have a pair of Sonic Springs in 1.2kg to be installed as well with 10w GoldenSpectro.
Now..I just need to find the time to install them.
Anybody else have a Penske? where did YOU mount the reservoir?
Sorry, a slight correction for you. Penske does not use
Hyperpro springs on their shocks. They use Hypercoil springs manufactured by a company called Hyperco.
There's also a difference between those two springs since most Hyperpro springs are progressive in their windings. Hypercoil springs are straight rate.
I run the Penske 8981 on my '05 FJR. The resi mounting location is different on the Gen1 bike vs the Gen2 (2006). Which model (year) FJR1300 do you own?
I recently (end of last week and beginning of this week) did all of the R&D for the '06 FJR1300 Penske shock for hose length, type of fittings, resi mounting location and also fabricated a custom bracket that will become the standard for all of the Penske shocks having remote reservoirs fitted to the '06 FJR. The work was completed yesterday on the final bracket design and Penske technicians will receive an email this afternoon with the complete setup including photos.
If you own a Gen1 FJR1300, I can send you pictures showing my recommended method of remote resi attachment. It's clean but requires you to use different rubber padding between the resi and the subframe rails. The Penske provided SS hose clamps aren't long enough to be used with their factory provided rubber bumpers if you mount the resi as I have done. They aren't long enough to go around the resi body, subframe rail, and through a slot cut in the rear fender at that mounting point.
It's possible someone could fabricate a bracket for the resi to be mounted to that is similiar to the bracket I made for the '06 FJR Penske resi.
Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you pictures of what I did here at the shop to mount the resi cleanly on both versions of the FJR.
