Got pulled over on Hwy 380 on west Texas on my way to CA. 83 in a 70 zone. He was coming from the opposite direction and hit the lights as we approached (couldn't hear my RD, or he was clever enough to not drive with it active, don't know which). I pulled over immediately as he pulled a Uturn.

I thought of a thread we had here a while back about the correct behavior to perform when pulled over. I shut off the engine, kick stand down, hands flat on my tank bag. He came up behind me and said "hi". I sad "hi" and asked him if I could get off my bike. He said yes so I proceeded to get off, take my helmet off, and remove my ear plugs. I think he was surprsed to see a grey beard behind the tiller. He seemed to relax a lot and began to eye my gear and bike even more closely. We had a pleasent conversation for about five minutes about bikes and gear, he was esp impressed with an on board XM radio. He kept looking at my IBA license plate frame, I think he's going to Google it when he gets home. He finally asked me for my license but not my insurance!

Long story short, not an unpleasent encounter, given the circumstances, esp being out in the moddle of nowhere. I think he almost felt bad about giving me a ticket but I apparently exceeded some internal speed policy.

ANyway, thanks to HRZilla, Flyball (?), the other LEO's and others that responded to that old thread. I think I behaved in exactly the right way to have him comfortable and not get arrested or shot out in the middle of bum **** nowhere.

Haha...Glad you didn't get shot too. Sheesh.

Sometimes, no matter how nice a person is, a citation is gonna get issued. I doubt it is department policy, but prolly his "personal" policy.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but plead not guilty. Either go to court or, if it's too far, call the prosecutor's office and ask what the judge normally does. In many cases you can get the charges reduced to something that will not affect your license and just mail them a check.

Glad all worked out well for you BwanaDik, sorry you got a ticket though. Could have been worse, HRZ and Patch would've strip searched you!

Sorry about the ticket.

Happy to learn that you did not get shot.

That would have been much worse.

I hope that this does not happen again to you but, if it does, next time maybe try for a photo :D

Sorry 'Zilla, meant no disrespect. But when you're traveling out here

Things could have turned out a lot less pleasent had I left the engine running and started franticlly rummaging around in my tank bag for my wallet

(Can't get the "photo" thingy to work, help please?)
Haha...That could be just about anywhere in TX or NM...I knew what you meant. No worries.
