Very sad. He was a great kid with a ton of potential. He was not cocky, took nothing for granted, and was well liked and well respected by his competitors. He will be missed. RIP

As his family lives local to us here in Vancouver I've been following this. It's unfortunate most of the editorial comments in the local paper have to do with whether a 13-year old should be allowed to ride a motorcycle, and about the track conditions. LINK HERE

Also, it looks like The U.S Grand Prix Racers Union is planning to review its safety measures: LINK

Gunny the media is hyping up the age deal. Most news articles had a pic of the rescue crew around Peter when he was down on the track, and another of him lying on a gurney and they're doing chest compressions. Bad taste, but feeds the medias agenda. I found Roadracingworld's article and it had Peter's smiling face, so I chose that one to link to. The others were in very poor taste indeed.

Exploiting this is just wrong.

R.I.P. Peter Lenz

He was a great kid, as others have said. He didn't take for granted his racing. He reminds me of another kid who was a tremendous racer of similar character and skill who passed away a few years ago, Toby Jorgenson.

It concerns me, when people who know nothing of motorcycling or racing start asking the safety questions without any knowledge of what the kid has done to be raacing at the level that Peter was at. He was in a development amature class that leads to the pros as soon as he turns 16.

RIP Peter, prayers and thoughts for your family and the family(ies) and racer(s) that were involved in the incident.

Here is a story about Peter: it defends young racers.

clicky

I guess folks think that racers of all sorts just instantly turn fast at 16 or 18 years old. Any time another Vancouver local racer (Nascar driver Greg Biffle) comes to town everybody says how they remember him racing around in his car, both on the streets and the local Portland racetrack. Nobody ever questions how young the pro's were when they started.

FWIW our local TV news did a live shot from Portland International Raceway last night during the story about Peter, mentioning how he raced there, and how he held records at a number of tracks. I saw nothing on the TV about whether young kids should be "allowed" to race, it was all about him and his family. They also ran a video spot of him they found on YouTube.

Just sad... much to young. I'll keep his parents in my prayers.

I found the conversation on a Dallas/FT.Worth radio station catching my attention this a.m.. They were discussing the death and age of the racer as the

discussion progressed the parents role of responsibility came into it. This not the place to discuss it but maybe in a new subject box.

Regards to the family and all the kids fans !!

AMA Professional racer Josh Herrin and some other folks have established a memorial fund for Peter's family. I encourage everyone to visit this site and consider donating. A truely talented young man was lost this weekend. A tragedy for sure.
