A proud USMC father, former marine and Native American Patriot Guard Rider will be picking up his son from Camp Pendleton Saturday, August 26th and taking him home. We're looking for anyone who wants to honor this young man with a M/C escort during any part of this trip.

The Nor Cal FJR guys represented pretty well at the last mission, so if you want to be a part of this party, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the coordinators.

Or, you can follow it yourself at https://patriotguard.org/

From JihadGene of the Patriot Guard Riders:

Friends-

Got a "Welcome Home Escort for Chief's Son", who is a US Marine coming home from Iraq on Saturday, 26 August. We need a group of PGR and friends to ride the Bakersfield to Fresno leg. It goes all the way to North Stockton with a food & drinks stop in Modesto at the VFW there. Don't have all the particulars yet but would like a head idea as to who can make it on that day. I don't care if ya can only make a mile it will last forever in that young Marine's mind...and ours!!! US and Marine flags and Yellow Ribbons are the order of the day!!! We will meet up with more Riders in Fresno. CPT Helldog will take it from there (Fresno), me... I only want to be a part of this thank you to a Great American Marine!!! I've only been to funeral missions and I look forward to this change of pace, where I can thank the hero in person!!!

SO HEADS UP******SATURDAY 26 AUGUST 2006****MORE TO FOLLOW AS THIS MISSION UNFOLDS!!!!

Go to forums>regional>California and see Welcome Home Escort, Chief's Son.

Chief is a Regional Captain in the PGR for those who don't know him....I'm proud to call him my friend, you will be too!!!

Thanks!!!

A very loud HooRah (sp?) to you and your son Chief!

God bless you and your son for keeping all of us safe!

I am going to ride at least a portion of this ride. When are you hooking up with the ride TC? Rogue?

And when are you splitting off?

I might run down to Bakersfield, then split off and head back home after the stop in Modesto. I think another forum member from Bakersfield may also join in.
From Gene Cook last night:

Here ya go on this Welcome Home Mission for Chief's Son....
WHERE: We stage at the parking lot of the "Extended Stay America Hotel" at

3318 California Ave, Bakersfield, Ca... just off Hwy 99. Chief and his son will be there.

WHEN WE STAGE IN BAKERSFIELD: At 1000 AM On SATURDAY, August 26th, 2006

WHEN WE DEPART BAKERSFIELD: 1100 AM. AND BAKERSFIELD PGR ROCK!!!! BIG TIME!!!!

****Note*** there is an ARCO nearby but their fuel stinks. Recommend gassing elsewhere!

* We should reach Fresno at 1230 PM and some will need to refuel.*

Thanks for your support, Jihadgene, Me-Gook Sah-Rham, US ARMY... and darn proud of it!!!

And for any who plan to join up in the southland;

At the moment the plans are to meet Chief and his son's PGR escort on the 5 at the on ramp, Roxford exit in Sylmar. This depends on whether or not they'll be making a stop at LAX, on Friday. I will post the staging time in Sylmar, when I receive the info.
Details will be posted as they develop.

This would be a good opportunity for Nor Cal and So Cal riders to pull off a meet & greet in Bakersfield. It looks like we'll be there for at least an hour. I'm guessing Chief & his boy are spending the night at the aforementioned hotel.

I intend to go on this ride, starting in Bakersfield (home) and possibly all the way to Stockton; where, after a little R&R, I hope to hit Ebbets Pass (E) to 395 (S) to Sonora Pass (W) to 49 (S) to 41 (S) to 99 (S) to Bakersfield. That of course depends on how much Rest and how little Relaxation.

As Toecutter noted, the staging is at 10AM, however, breakfast around 8:30AM sounds good. I'll check what restaurant is closest (possibly Marie Callenders or Carrows). PM me if anyone is interested in food, first.

Went on my first Patriot Guard ride this past Saturday and was pleased to meet Toecutter and RockinFJR, to form the FJR trio, among the HD's and Wings.

Overall a positive experience, to welcome home an Irag Marine veteran. Had an outstanding reception at the Modesto VFW. Wasn't used to riding with that large of a group in parade style from Bakersfield to Stockton and was a little tight.

On Sunday, left Stockton and hit Ebbet's Pass (Hwy 4) which was great. Nice to see Lake Alpine and Mesquito (sp-?) Lake, then Monitor Pass to 395 (South), stopping for a great breakfast at Meadowcliff Lodge/Restaurant (4 miles North of Walker). Continued down to 120 (?) to cross Tioga Pass and entered Yosemite ($10). Great scenery in Yosemite, but very slow. Posted max speeds of 45mph, with several sections of 25mph and 35mph. Unless I intend to view all of the sites in Yosemite, that will be my last trip on that road. Exited Yosemite on 41 to Oakhurst and Fresno, then 99 South to Bakersfield.

Thanks to Toecutter for spreading the word about this event and I look forward to trying to keep up with you and RockinFJR on some future ride.
