Oh God Gary, please don't say it Brother! What's next for Papa Chuy Viejo? Long evenings in the hot tub with HotRodZilla, Bustanut joker and odot drinking wine while listening to Barry Manilow! jes' sayin' and nuff said, ese!
Next? What do you mean "Next"? I thought you guys were already doing that!

Don, I seriously want to compliment you on your generosity. Letting an (im)perfect stranger ride your FJR is a really wonderful gesture. And the fact that you rode (and looked Good!) on a yellow GoldWing just confirms that you are indeed a Motorcycle Rider. It is wonderful the way you are able to bring your passion for Motorcycles, not just FJRs to this forum.

My sincerest compliments.

I mean, it's not like I DON'T want to wear a matching outfit with my Girlfriend Donna.

But what about that last couple, different T-shirts!! I think they are ready to trade the GL for a K1600GT or an FJR.
Damn, that's just scary...maybe a GT/GTL IS in my future.

Where's the pics of our own FJR / 'wing converts Don? Are they wearing this ^^^^ garb when we're not around?

I'll 2nd that. I've had the pleasure of knowing Don for about 12 years now and though I've seen the good, bad and the ugly in him (doesn't everyone have a little of that) I know for a fact he would give you the shirt off his back (now that's a scary image that might give all of you nightmares). But it's true!! He's motorcycle encyclopedia & friend to all in the biking community, here in Phx & across the country. And no, he didn't pay me to say that.

Slghtly off topic, but where do you Phoenix area FJR guys go for service? D&D Motorcycles in Tempe is the local Goldwing specialist, and I've never met a Goldwing owner that goes anywhere else for non-warranty work. Is there an independent shop around that knows all the ins and outs of the FJR?

So answer this question Don.

When are you adding a 'wing to your stable?!?

When we were in Sparks, Don said he didn't dare let Donna near a wing cause she would throw rocks at the BMW. JSNS

This is 100% true, we AZ Beemers have three couples/members who ride Gold Wings. Those rotten dirty *******s are always trying to get my Donna to ride a few miles on their Hondapotamus, I live in fear that she will do it and I'll have to buy a Lead Wing!

Don,

Maybe you should PM one of the admins and ask them to change your forum name to Hondadons

Hi Escape! I believe we met several years ago (2010?) at a members house in Washington for a 'tech day'. I was completing my 'last 3 states in North America' ride and stopped in to do an oil & filter change.

I've been reading the (hopefully) tongue in cheek comments about the Wings in this thread. For background I have been riding for 50 years now and have had a couple of the large beasts. Say what you will, but for what they are, they do it well. I put ~275K LD miles on my two without a single mechanical failure. I did join GWRRA for a year but quite frankly couldn't get into their whole 'schtick'. They do wear funny stuff!

While I have put a couple of 1000 mile days on my fjr, I can't count how many I did on those Wings. Now that I'm older. I find 600 mile days to be just fine with the fjr and I don't have keep track of all those 'medals' to wear on my vest.

Hey CT, yep I was at BReamers place that day for the mini Tech and your oil change.

Lots of good natured ribbing here with GoldWings and GTL's...Can't ever see myself in the GWRRA if matching shirts and vests are required, maybe matching 'stitches will work instead! For two-up touring, a full Monty 'wing can't be overlooked!

When I first met Don, he swore he'd never own or ride a K-bike. I got endless crap when I bought my K1200RS. Then, lo and behold, came his K16, so it's only a matter of time...

When you no longer have a desire to pull into every Starbucks you see and instead go to the Dairy Queen then is the time to dump the K16 Land Barge for a Hondapotamus. The only known cure to stave off this long descent is to ride the FJR as much as possible and find a Tim Hortons.

You know what would be perfect business opportunity for you Billy Fitz? Open up a Tim Horton's franchise in Phoenix! With the hordes of Canuckistani Frostback Snowbirds that flock to Phoenix every Fall/Winter/Spring you would have a gold mine on your hands. During the 110F Summers when you Girlie Wimp Hosers go back Nord du Ligne just change the name of your Tim Horton's to AJ's Burritos y Menudo, then have HotRodZilla come over and serve up his famous carne asada burritos along with his Menudo Rico! Excelente, ese!

My FJR only saw the dealer's service department for the initial 600 mile service. Take my bike exclusively to Dirtball Customs in Mesa. Don't let the name fool you, this independent shop works on all brands... does excellent work... and charges half what the dealers charge.

The owner/manger (Josiah Brennan) was the service manager for a large BMW dealership in Chandler before starting his own shop. While I will admit that his shop is always filled with a variety of BMW tourers and adventure models, he routinely works on Wings, FJRs, Royal Enfields, and others. He is the mechanic of choice for several municipalities for their police bikes (BMW)... Town of Peoria, Salt River Indian Community, and others.

Recently had my 26,600 service (valve check, radiator flush, spark plugs, etc.) performed there. Dealer quoted $800 for this "major" service... Josiah performed it for $390.

Headed there this week to have my last set of PR2s mounted, balanced, and put on the bike in advance of an upcoming trip. He charges $30 per tire regardless of the bike... quite a bargain for the rear tire of a Wing.

Where else can you see what the mechanic is doing to your bike while it's being done... The shop is located at 420 S Robson in Mesa (major cross streets are Broadway and Country Club).

My bike is a Gen2... my friend with a Gen3 also takes his bike there... another buddy takes his '83 Aspencade there...

Check him out... worth the trip.

Don, with HotRodZilla being a LEO donuts and anything sounds good to him.
