A friend of mine has taken a large number of pictures of various people and scenery that she would like to make available so the group's member can individually select and download their favorites. What photo sharing site(s) might you recommend her using?

Thanks in advance,

Roy

I like and use Smugmug. Others on this forum use Photobucket. If you don't have a lot of photos Photobucket is free.

Photobucket has now porked up their site with a metric **** load of advertising, unless you choose to pay them to not serve you ads. It was done like Photobucket was extorting money instead of simply saying they need a vary small fee. Pissed me off, they did. Also, Photobucket keeps changing the way features work. I run an ad blocker so Photobucket responds by taking away some functions on the page. Anyhoo, stepping off the soap box and moving on..... I still use Photobucket for hosting pixs for techie and how-to stuff but nothing else.

For trip pictures I'm now using Smugmug and I like the way you can retain the original size of the pixs. There are several free hosting sites; heck it's free, try'em out and see what works for you.

SmugMug: Free for 14 days as far as I can tell. Then it becomes a paid service. If I am wrong let me know.

I use Shutterfly for prints and stuff but have not used the sharing service. It looks easy to use. Used Seattle Photoworks for years, mainly for their film, archiving/CD burning. and print services. Their share site was OK I think.

Photobucket was first. They had the best free image hosting on the internet about five years ago, but like Ionbeam says, it is now advertising run amok. I even used to have a pro account there, but they have become essentially useless.

Full resolution images can be hosted in Imgur.com and it gives you a lot of alternative ways to link and post the images to a site, including easy to use thumbnail images of various sizes that let the user access the full size image by clicking on it, bit that doesn't put oversize images on forums or tax the data on a mobile device. No ads, just good hosting.

I still have my Photobucket account because I used it more than 10 years, but I am also looking for something different that works easily with a mobile app as well as with the laptop machine. Imjur is pending with their mobile app. If they get that, I'll drop Photobucket.

Had Smugmug. Decided I wasn't making bank on my photos, to dropped them and went back to Photobucket. Since it's mainly for linking to photos (url direct links) I care not if they plaster it with ads on their web interface.

If you root around over on ADVrider, there are folks with discount codes for Smugmug in their signatures.

And, IIRC, the dude that runs Smugmug also runs ADVRider and is, therefore, a motorcycle guy.

Just sayin'...

Oh - and I've been using Photobucket ever since I got in to writing ride reports several years ago.

I have and like my Smugmug Power User paid account. Use it as a family album and central webpage for all my photos. I tend to geek-out a bit on the design and store more photos than the average user though.
