Well, the wifey wants to ride, so this is her first bike, (My *cough*... other bike). Got the shorty version in silver... First farkle... Crash bars. ;-)

I figure it is the perfect first bike and a really nice to have second bike in the stable. Been looking at alot of different options, but with her height, the choices are pretty narrow. Little pricey but hay, a guy has to do what a guy has to do to keep her interested in his very expensive hobby.

Congratulations, Ryan! That thing would have been fun down in Death Valley, wouldn't it? Best of all, no LEOs on the dirt trails. (I freakin' hope :angry2: ) I went to Google to get a look at what the bike looks like, and this was the first link I clicked on. I'm sure it's an easy fix, but do make sure it's done on yours, huh? Have fun, both of you. And ride safe, Jeanette.

that's F***ing great! hahaha. Sure it is. It was just delivered to the dealer a week ago. I will certainly check however.

Take care mike. See you in a couple of months.

A huge congrats to the wifey and you!

I must say however, I am not sure it makes the best 'first' bike. Most 'first' bikes go down an awful lot. The F650GS does make a great 'second' bike however! My g/f got the first 2009 to hit the Phoenix area back in September of '08. Good on you for getting the one with the short legs. We didn't for my g/f, and it would have been better if we had. We'll probably ending up buying an aftermarket shock to shorten it.

Great bike for around town. Light, great torque, sweet handling. A bit buzzy, a ****** seat, and limited wind protection are the negatives for me.

GSJane gets her new bike: Clicky

Then El Pendejo Grande gets one: Clicky II

And one of the few times Jane let me ride it: Clicky III

My BMW has taken me to Real de Catorce, down into Baja California Norte, down into Sonora, Mexico and all over the offroad tracks and trails of Arizona and New Mexico! A Faithful Steed!

That picture shows the old F650GS, the new one is a detuned F800 twin. https://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/bmw...view-87558.html

Scroll down to the bottom to see a good pic. Basically a "smaller" R1200GS. Still a fun bike. The one in the pic is now a G650GS as these bikes are geared to the women that ride and are single cyl thumpers. Older versions of the G's are F's. Why BMW just didn't call the new 600 the G is beyond me.

MojaveFJR: What blows the mind of this 42 year BMW Owner/Rider is why they didn't call my bike "Salma Hayek" F800GS and call the other 800, the F800GS Adventure. I mean they'd already started that nomenclature with the R1150GS Adventure and the R1200GS Adventure. Every BMW owner wonders about this!

I am not a big fan of Motorcyclist magazine, in fact, out of the dozen monthly mags I receive in the mail, it is my least favorite. But, from pages 100-106 in the May 2010 issue they have made modifications to an F800GS and the same parts will fit an F650GS Twin. On page 106 is a very comprehensive list of F650GST vendors.
