I'm posting pictures to my flickr account. Weather was beautiful today, wish ya'll were still here to ride with me. Rode the first 120 miles of EOM-1 and would have felt better if someone had been around to help locate my corpse...

This was the coolest thing I saw on EOM-1:

Anybody know what these critters are? I'm a city boy and they don't look like no chickens I ever seen...

I'm guessing pea hens (the less showy, female version of a peacock).

I believe that those are Guinea Hens. They travel in large packs and make a huge racket.

Below is my ride report for EOM

Photos from my ride of Fontana Road ( NC 28 ) and the Dragon ( US 129) at EOM on Saturday.

Roads go ever ever on,

Over rock and under tree,

By caves where never sun has shone,

By streams that never find the sea:

Over snow by winter sown,

And through the merry flowers of June,

Over grass and over stone,

And under mountains in the moon. - - - - JRR Tolkien

The picture above was just before Fontana Road goes from 4 lanes into two. There were 2 cops about 1 mile behind me with their lights on. They were the only ones I saw in NC

Picture287.jpg

This was taken at Fontana Dam. Fontana road was new to me but about as much fun as the Dragon for sure. There was a scene from the movie "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford

Picture289.jpg

The King beneath the mountains,

The King of carven stone,

The lord of silver fountains

Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,

His harp shall be restrung,

His halls shall echo golden

To songs of yore re-sung. - - - - JRR Tolkien

The Dragon at Deals Gap. Below is it's treasure trove.

This below is a photo at the dam on the Dragon

Here's the Hobbit taking a cautious ride upon said Dragon

The woods shall wave on mountains

And grass beneath the sun:

His wealth shall flow in fountains

And the rivers golden run.

The streams shall run in gladness,

The lakes shall shine and burn,

All sorrow fail and sadness

At the Mountain-king's return! - - - - JRR Tolkien

This is just off the Dragon. The Foothills Parkway.

Picture295.jpg

It's leisurely and with lots of turnouts much like the Blue Ridge Parkway

Picture297.jpg

Roads go ever ever on

Under cloud and under star,

Yet feet that wandering have gone

Turn at last to home afar,

Eyes that fire and sword have seen

And horror in the halls of stone

Look at last on meadows green

And trees and hills they long have known. - - - - JRR Tolkien

There and Back Again!

P.S. JICYWW The Kanji characters on my bike mean "Jinba Ittai" roughly translated as man horse one body.

Great ride reports!

Oh yea, Ginea's they are, travel in family pack. Can be domesticated and raised like chickens. Very lean, foul. They can Get a running start when chased up to speeds of 15mph, then when the attacker gets to close, they can take off and fly and glide for up to 200 yds.

Like that smuggler back rest combo protondecay123
