Damn I love Ride Reports, JSNS.

Pi day should be July 22. Back when we did arithmetic longhand, before calculators, it was a lot easier to do "times 22 divided by 7" than to do "times 3.14." 22/7 (twenty-second of July) was a good approximation for when you only needed a couple of significant figures. You know, when slide rules "ruled" the world.

So, we had π day at work today. I told everyone that they had to answer a skill testing question to get pie. The question: How do you calculate the circumference of a circle? Virtually nobody had an answer.......even when reminded that today was π Day.

Here's MY slide rule: No going down the slide head first.

Nobody says you can't enjoy a lunch counter full of pie twice a year. You know, like Niehart does twice a week!

Dave, oh great pie man of the world! Would you extend your worldly knowledge to sharing some pie secrets from your journeys to Arizona. I have yet to discover great pie and kneel to your wisdom for advice to correct this terrible injustice. Forever in your debt.

Ralph

Hey, that is NOT an FJR rider's bookshelf!!! Weight Loss, Eat Right, 16-Day Detox Diet, Uncommon Cures, and Estrogen??????

I had a Pickett metal slide rule that looked very much like the one over the bookcase. In fact, I had both the 6" pocket version and the full size one (12") - both with leather cases. Probably still have them somewhere. Geekware from a previous era.

Niehart: You certainly know your way around pie. I consider myself a relative novice, but believe very strongly in the 'ole adage:

"If at first you do not succeed, then by gosh try try again."

One day I shall very much like to sit down and enjoy a slice of pie with you. Would you consider going to YFO?
