How does one attempt to get burnt shoe sole off the pipes next to the footpeg?
Suggestions

GreyGooseBug & tar remover will do it, apply it, let it sit for awhile and use elbow grease with soft rag. Afterwards get yourself a couple of Cobra 6" chrome heat shields for the permanent solution.

0000 Steel Wool works like a champ. Done it since '02 on both my FJR's, fastest method I've found. Makes the pipes look real nice too.

A wad of aluminum foil, with some elbow grease works well. I know it soulds unlikely, but give it a try.

Although I never cleaned my melt mark off because it's conveniently covered by a Cobra Heat Shield and prevents future melting.

Or some fine steel or brass wool and dish soap would work.

Honda polish spray. Let is sit on there for awhile.
Can you still get Honda spray polish in California?

My local dealer said it has been outlawed in CA :angry2:

GreyGoose, see here, we've been talking about this topic just today
1st i ever heard of it. I'm pretty sure i saw some at the local shop recently. That stuff is the best. Between that and simple green, you don't need anything else.

They have changed the label. It now says for chrome and unpainted surfaces only. My Honda VTX site has stated that it has milked out some paint in the past. There is plenty in the Bay Area of San Fran but it might have come in before the law change.

I like the cobra heat shield idea. Do i need one for both sides? also, they are now 7 inches long. will it still fit well on the 06.

I just have one on my '05....the side I tend to dip my boot on. Individual results will vary.

Also, don't know about an '06. You should go take a tape measure and confirm length and pipe width.

and where does one find 0000 scouring pad. I lightly used a scouring pad that my wife has for pots in the kitchen. Not a good idea. Took the stuff right off, but can easily scratch the pipes..

Greygoose, try an autobody supply store. 0000 will not scratch the pipes, in fact, it will give them a nice polished look. Removes the "yellow" tinting as well. The stuff I use is called Rhodes American. super fine #0000 steel wool.

Home Depot and Lowes also carry #0000 super-fine steel wool.

Never had boot marks on the pipes and I know they hit. Must be my cool running Feej, I guess. :dntknw: But, if GooGone can get tar off the stainless, I'd imagine it'll get the rubber off, too.
