and where does one find 0000 scouring pad. I lightly used a scouring pad that my wife has for pots in the kitchen. Not a good idea. Took the stuff right off, but can easily scratch the pipes.. GreyGoose
I think it's a great idea and I use it all the time. I don't think you could leave a scratch if you tried :p

Ride barefoot, and then you will know when you are too close to the pipes.

Once you have mastered that, your foot will have obtained, "memory" and you can then move up to sandals, shorts, and a t-shirt.

There seems to be 2 cobra heat shields that you can order. a 2 inch and a 2 1/4 inch. Which is the correct one for 06 FJR?

What you should do is measure your pipes on your 06.

03-05 FJRs used 1 3/4 shields here. I have those on my 04. Also look here at Warchild's site.

I think Spridal had a link on the previous page, maybe for the 06. Measure your pipes !!

Here's what I used to do before I bought my Cobra shields.

Made sure my exhaust pipes were good'n'hot, poured some acetone (nail polish remover) on a heavy cotton rag and (often on a single pass) removed the burnt rubber residue.

If the burnt rubber is pretty thick, just shave it off with a box cutter and then use acetone on what's left.

Don't inhale the damn thing, though... :dribble:

I thought that's how all you guys ride? The dude I saw a few days ago in euless was wearing a button up shirt with dress pants.......and a helmet. Really wish I had a pic of that.....and that shiteatin' grin on his face.

I just installed the cobra heat shields on both sides. This was not something i wanted to mess with every week. I also tend to throw on rubber boot over whatever shoes i'm biking in when i get caught in the rain. I wasnt ready to fork out the bucks for a new set of rubbers (dont anyone think about going there!!!! :D ) after every rain storm. The heat shields look nice and eliminate the need to have to mess with it.

42 dollar fix (both sides) that i would highly recommend to anyone. Thanx for the recommendation.

:D Check denniskirk.com for the 6" cobras, usually $19.95 per for them. 7" is not a good fit...

I like the cobra heat shield idea. Do i need one for both sides? also, they are now 7 inches long. will it still fit well on the 06.
