Planning a Lobster Run from Maryland

So last year I had planned to take a ride to Eastport, ME and dubbed it the Lobster Run. That trip got canceled when I broke my leg the weekend prior; but now I'm ready to ride again!

My first concern are the black flys! Any idea when those *******s are active and when they settle down?

I'm thinking about the July/August time frame to escape the local heat. Should be nice through NY, VT, NH, and ME.

Thought and suggestions?

I'm not sure trading black flys for moose is fare?

Any especially interesting sites and roads from Burlington VT into Eastport ME?

Black fly season gradually merges into greenhead season (July) near the salt marshes...

End of July thru end of the season is relatively bug free.

It takes a good spell of hot weather to burn out the black flies.

Trust me, being up here in the Great White North I know something about black flies.

Please note however that FJR's will outrun most black flies, even 'pokey' Gen I's.

The best time to come up here is August (the later the better) and September. Fewer bugs and usually drier, sunny weather.

@Charlie, thanks for the advice. I'm currently looking at mid. to late July; but August isn't off the table yet.

Looking at routes I'm thinking of overnighs in:

Hunter, NY

Burlington, VT

Showhegan or Newport, ME

Eastport, ME -- for a morning sunrise.

Some where in Prince Edward Island or Halifax haven't decided.

Undecided on the return trip yet.

I'm familiar with the territory north through NY. The run east will be new ground though.

If you're going to be in Margaretville, you absolutely HAVE to do Rt 30 along the bottom of Pepacton Reservoir.

@joebiodiesel, Thanks I didn't share my route into Margaretville, NY but I am planning to pickup Rt30 at Rt206. It looked good on Google.
