I have just begun planning The Super Sport Touring, Tri-State, Multi-Stage Battle Event for spring time next year, I'm looking at mid to late May.

I'm planning to hit The Snake, Great Smokey Mountain National Park, Cherohala Skyway, Deal's Gap, and The Blue Ridge Parkway back home with my brother and a couple of friends. 1,271 miles in total, probably done over three to four days with as much camping as possible.

I would like some input on my planned route. Any points of interest from those that have been to the area before? Tips for planning a long trip. I guess this seems kinda far off to be planning now, but I just want to make sure it's well done and it's also the first time I've planned something like this.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yeah yeah, the name's cheesy but uh.... :****:

I just got back from a very similar trip. I won't even discuss the riding we did in AL because I don't think it would be of interest. So we started in Tellico Plains at the Cherahola Motorcycle Resort ( www.cycleresort.com ). Then took the Cherahola Skyway to Bryson City (actually stayed on the Nantahala and paddled on whole day). Then we did a one day outing on the BRP from Cherokee to Ashville and then back to Bryson on 19/74. The next day we took 441 across the Great SM National Park (not directly, there were a few turns, 441 to little something to something else, basically you follow the signs to Townsend) to foothills parkway. (be aware that this is a very slow ride because of traffic). Then we picked up 129 and rode it down to 143 and back across the Cherahola Skyway. This loop, or most of it is on Madmaps map of this area BTW.

Good luck,

Rick

2 things:

Take Jeff's advice because he knows the area really well.

Secondly, I would recommend that you change your route so that you ride rt28 from Franklin, NC all the way to the Dragon. Great road just north of Franklin.
