Hey Guy's,

Some buddies of mine and I are planning an early summer ride up to the New England States this Spring. What I need is someone whose familiar with the roads in either southern PA. or northern WV. Most of these guy's are" two-upin" and are primarily "SLAB- RIDERS" There choice is 80 across towards Scranton then up, I've managed to talk some sense into one of them at least and were lookin for a two lane East/West route. Thanking all advisors in advance, And and all input will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave

Dave,

I think you could find a plethora of WV roads by looking in the EOM 08 thread and EOM website...between those two locations there is a route sheet or map of some GREAT WV roads.

As far as W. Pa, murph or the PA riders might be able to give you pointers. I did ride through western PA from NY down to WV in 07, but I don't have a map in front of me...If you look in my road trip report "CFR to EOM" back in late fall of '07, there is a MS S&T map printed of the route. Some of those roads were very nice.

'Course, nit knowing PA as well, I would just head down through SE Ohio :yahoo: on my way down to WV...but what do I know?

Hope this helps...and have a great trip. :clapping:

If you're going the first week of June a great destination is the Americade rally in Lake George, NY. From there, you're a hop, skip and a jump to some great riding in upstate NY, NH and VT.

To get there, jump on I-90 to northwest PA (forget about interesting roads in northern IN and OH) and pick up route 6. Ride route 6 as far as you want and then head north. It's a great ride. This is at least a two day ride, longer if you like to sight-see.

If it's W VA you're looking for, take a super slab to Columbus, OH, then ride out of town on route 33. In Athens, OH, you can either continue south on 33 to the Ohio River, head east on route 50 or wind through some nice twisties on routes 682 and 681. Work your way over to the bridge over the river at Parkersburg, W VA and then hop on route 50 east. From that point, there's a ton of nice twisties. Stay with it, and you'll end up in Front Royal, VA, at the beginning of the Skyline Drive and then the Blue Ridge Parkway. Another great ride.

In case you're wondering, I did both of these last year.

Jon

Rt50 in WVa is a nice road for a two up ride. I don't know about west of interstate79 but the east side is nicely paved and a great ride. From Rt50 you can get on Rt220 which will take you north all the way to New York. Also nice 2up ride.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info guy's. For the life of me I can't understand how anyone can ride the "SLAB" for 2 straight days when there are so many nice 2 lane roads out here to travel. Hey anyway looks like the route 50is it. Since it's still early in the year I'll be monitoring this Post for a couple of more month's thanks guy's for all the help! Dave

DAVE,

Just read you post here and assume you have not planned completely. I would suggest an easy 2 up ride from Cleveland to the Central part of PA. South to NEw Philly and take US RT 250 to Wheeling, nice easy sweepers. Then take US RT 40 to US RT 220 and take that North from Cumberland.

US RT 40 is a good 2 up ride, not to techincal, but offers a plethora of sites.

If you decide to come on into WV you can just stay on IS RT 250 to US RT 50. Actually US RT 50 doesn't become fun until Grafton WV anyway.

Not the direct route by any means, but certainly better that I-80, I cringe thinking about that.

If nothing else, come down to Canton and hit US RT 30 East to Gettysburg and take US RT 11 North.

I enjoy Route 40, is is the National Road and you have lots of historical stuff along the way. Including "THE WOODLANDS"

a high end resort outside of Uniontown.

Sounds fun,

Jeff

Jeff, I took 250 south from Wheeling to route 50 east...250 was quite a goat path, almost ran out of gas, luckly I hit Hundred WV just in time. Not much between Wheeling and Hundred...I thought I saw that little dude playing the banjo at one point. :guitar:
