Please help - Winscreen motor causing instruments to stay on

hi All,

Desperatly in need of help.

This evening my trusty 2004 Uk spec FJR started to play up.

When I switched off the ignition the instruments stayed on and i could hear a relay constantly tripping on and off.

I've managed to partly strop down teh front of the bike and have found the relay and disconnected it, but the ignition is still staying on!

I believe from searching that this is probably due to winscreen motor or micro-switch failure.

Firstly I'd really appreciate confirmation as to whether this diagnosis sounds right and secondly -

WHAT BODGE CAN I USE SO I CAN GET TO WORK TOMORROW!

Is there a winscreen fuse? Can I pull that and isolate the problem?

Any and all help really appreciated, otherwise I'm riding 120 miles tomorrow without a screen and disconnecting teh battery when i get to work, which is far from ideal!!

it's really really weird to have something fail in the "on" position...I got nuthin' more to offer

Your windscreen is probably a little stiff from age and is not lowering enough to solidly trip the 'full down' microswitch. Or it is so stiff that it is tripping a thermal breaker switch. For now do the "leave it where it is" mod and try to lube it so it moves smoother.
