Polaris purchases Brammo, the electric motorcycle company. This gives Polaris yet another company to go along with the likes of Victory and Indian. Polaris plans to start selling electrofried motorcycles later this year.

Polaris has also recently acquired KLIM, Pro Armor and Kolpin Outdoors. Polaris is a company on the move. Very solid financial performance.

The talk amongst the principals of many aftermarket manufacturers at Sturgis last August and at Biktoberfest in October was that Polaris has lots of cash, is easy to work with, has great processes and is a company on the move. They, being an American company, have a wedge to use in separating HD customers from their allegiance to the Motor Company.

Being a much broader based company, ATVs, Bikes, Sleds, whatever you call this new 3 wheeled sports car contraption etc helps them as well.

As the economy continues to grow my guess is Polaris will grow as well.

I'm seeing many more Victory motorcycles at the large Pirate events I attend. Aftermarket manufacturersare paying much more attention to Victory. The association with Arlen Ness has certainly helped them.

"Indian Motorcycles was acquired today by Polaris Industries. With the slow economy, Indian had a tough road due to a limited and high end line of motorcycles. Polaris, on the other hand is far more diversified and better able to weather the current market conditions. This could be a good combination for both companies. Very interesting!"

Press release follows:

"Polaris Industries Inc. today announced the acquisition of Indian Motorcycle. The business was acquired from Indian Motorcycle Limited (“IML”), a company advised by Stellican Limited and Novator Partners LLP, U.K. Private Equity firms. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We are excited to be part of the revitalization of a quintessentially American brand,” said Scott Wine, CEO of Polaris Industries Inc. “Indian built America’s first motorcycle. With our technology and vision, we are confident we will deliver the classic Indian motorcycle, enhanced by the quality and performance for which Polaris and Victory are known.”

Alan, I actually am thinking of going on this Edelweiss Electric Motorcycle tour of the Alps! My friend Rainer Buck at EBT says this tour sells out quickly! JSNS!

A good sign for e-bikes, to be sure, plus the distribution network needed to support sales and marketing.

I was down on ebikes until my ride on the HD lightning, which opened my eyes to their potential and benefits.

Having big money show up to the party is a good thing for the ebike industry, which needs to shed its current status and go more mainstream, a la Tesla.
